Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 3

Tatooine does seem to be well trodden ground. But, as others have said, we don't know how it is incorporated into the film. I'll reserve judgement for now.

And for all we know, Tatooine might be completely absent from Episodes VIII and IX, which would make the ST the trilogy with the least Tatooine appearances.

I'm hoping we're just seeing some kind of search for a MacGuffin left behind by Ben.

We had decent reasons to visit it before: Han's unfinished business with Jabba in Jedi and his need for rescue, and though it shouldn't have been his home planet, Anakin's unfinished business with his mother.

Hopefully there's just a continuation there, and I think a race for something Ben left behind is a great idea if we absolutely must go back.

Surely, it must have been eaten by now. Oh, you mean a clever plot device. ;)

No no, I meant a literal MacGuffin.

Delicious.

Well if those picture are of any indication, it won't be just getting something Obi-Wan left behind. If that's really an AT-AT foot it is going to be something major.

Maybe it's not even Tatooine but some other desert planet.

That's what I was hoping but this photo pretty much guarantees it is Tatooine:

^My thoughts exactly. If it's so remote, why is it so important?

It feels unimportant to Luke in the first film.

Detroit might seem unimportant to a poor kid raised there but the city has a glorious past and in the future it is protected by a cyborg with lady lips.

Whoa. Too bad they are so small.

If this really is Tatooine, we're seeing critters we haven't seen before. Curiously, not a Jawa in sight.

Episode 7 set footage / 6 concept art.

I knew I had seen that gate before ....

Left: Image at TMZ of a gate in the fence, supposedly the fence with the "Warning" sign.

Right: Concept art for Return of the Jedi. The entrance to Jabba's palace seen from the palace gate.

I am about to plotz looking at these. I love the design of that round building. It looks like maybe some desert swap meet of some kind? Amazing! THE ARCHWAY IS A MCQUARRIE DESIGN!

Very interested in the costume of the blonde lady. Looked like it had a helmet maybe? Very interesting stuff! Love that speeder design.

Looking at more, maybe the outskirts of a small down after a Tusken raid? Maybe Jabba's Palace has been taken over by traders or something (Notice that the electric Jurassic Park fence curves away from the rest of the set, maybe around the palace?)?! Boba Fett lives?!

Podracer engine?! I DON'T EVEN CARE!

Excellent catch, Darth Lars! I thought it looked vaguely familiar.

Would be nice if Ralph McQuarrie got a screen credit.

I recognized that arch the second I saw it. So awesome.

I don't think that's a speeder, looked like a pod-racing cockpit to me.

As for my guess at what the set is. I think it might be a ranch for them pig things.

I guess they do have bacon in a galaxy far far away. ;)

Okay. Stepping back a bit and being more objective...

The costume design (and the podracer bits) is a bit Prequel-y, I must admit. Just doing some comparisons with Tobar and there's a definite difference between OT and ST that leans more to the PT.

Nice catch Darth Lars.  I'd have liked McQuarrie's hanging 'lantern'-shaped lighting to have been incorporated in the structure too, but good to see his unused concept referenced anyway.

No matter what, this is a movie being designed by people in 2014, not 1987

A friend of a friend working at Pinewood just updated their Facebook with "surreal experience seeing stormtroopers walking past the window at work"

Could the the new films have proper stormtroopers in them?!? Damn I hope so.

Those pics are great btw. That pig shouted thing is fantastic. The fact that they've actually built something like that is a step in the right direction.
