Happy Memorial Day 2014

Well it is Memorial Day again.  I just got done watching the National Memorial Day Concert.   I highly recommend it.   It is a very powerful reminder of what this day is about: the brave solders who didn't make it back.   I always shed a very tears during the concert, especially when the actors relate stories of soldiers that served and their famies.   It is always powerful and emotional.   I always think of years past when the great Charles Durning was speaker.   He was not only a great actor but a WWII veteran.  He was on the beaches on D-Day.   His speeches were always so powerful and moving.  Here is a clip from on of his last appearances at the concert where he decribes his experences on D-Day.

Whatever you are going to do on Memorial Day, please take a few moments and remember what this day is about.

May God Bless America.

 May God Bless America, indeed.

I offer up the words of one of our greatest Presidents, and Commanders-in-Chief, of modern times as I am in no way eloquent enough to say what my heart feels, but this man always could. I can't help but cry, and I always do at the very, very end.

A Soldier's Pledge

-----------------

I am sleeping and going into work tonight. Another night of breaking up fights, arresting abusive husbands/wives, getting DWI's off the streets. No enjoyment for me, but what sacrifice I make on this, or any other day, is very little when compared to the sacrifice that those brave men and women make who are in the military or were in the military.

If those men can storm up a beach riddled in a hail of bullets and explosions, if they can walk through a jungle knowing their next step may be their last, if they can load into a helicopter and fly into enemy territory where capture and torture is likely if they fail to complete their mission, I can go spend a few hours cleaning up societies messes and come home.

God Bless Our Soldiers, God Bless Our Veterans, and God Bless America.

Thankyou for your service, Ferris.   That was quite a powerful speech the President gave.
