I've always felt like lightsabers are useless weapons for none force users. Blasters would be better for them. Think about how no one uses swords anymore. The difference being that lightsabers can block blaster beams, but only Jedi have the sensitivity to actually do that.
Also, when lightsabers used to be heavy, it would not be advantageous for non Jedi to use them in a duel or otherwise.
