I don't know why, but it makes me sad.

I'm no Lucas apologist, but I imagine he's a pretty decent fellow and wish him the best.  Sorry I'm a day late, but happy birthday Georgie!

I don't understand all the hate that gets tossed his way. Happy belated Birthday George. You have enriched all of our lives with your creations.

The movie theater is my church and my holy trinity is a Trilogy.

And then tried to take them away and substitute them with other creations of which I cannot say the same ;)

Anyway, happy birthday. Hope you finally get to make one of those movies you wanted to make for the past few decades but couldn't for obvious reasons.

That cake looks like it's made of play doh. ;)

Where were you in '77?

I've got nothing against George Lucas, but I'm not the type to wish people happy birthday if they aren't going to see/hear my birthday wish. I hope he had a good one though.

Personally, I have no love left for the man, so all I can wish him is an indifferent birthday (it's better than the alternative).

Having reached an age when my birthdays don't evoke quite as much enthusiasm, I look to the birthdays of youths to rediscover the wonder.

I shouldn't limit myself so. When you think about it, reaching GL's age is a great achievement in itself.

        HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, GEORGE! :)

George Lucas doesn't come here so I personally see no point in saying Happy Birthday. If I were to have met him on his birthday or if it were a message board I knew he were to read I would happily wish him well and express my hopes for his continued survival.

To quote my Facebook post: "Happy birthday, Mr. George Lucas. Thanks for creating a franchise that has defined, and continues to define my life, and thanks for selling it to Disney before you ran it into the ground entirely. Here's to another few decades of Star Wars."

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

 I'm not so convinced:

The NY Times said:

In the last decade and a half, Lucas has given “Star Wars” several “final” cuts. For the 1997 special edition, he made Greedo, a green-skinned alien, fire his blaster at Han Solo because Han’s murdering Greedo in cold blood — as the 1977 version had it — struck him as a violation of his own naïve style. For the new Blu-ray version of “Return of the Jedi,” Lucas added Darth Vader shouting, “Nooo!” as he seizes the evil emperor in the movie’s climactic scene. Lucas made the Ewoks blink. And so forth.

When fanboys wailed, Lucas did not just hear the scream of young Jedis; he heard something like the voice of the studio. The dumb, uncomprehending voice in his Socratic dialogues — a voice telling him how to make a blockbuster. “On the Internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made a change are completely changing the movie,” Lucas says, referring to fans who, like the dreaded studios, have done their own forcible re-edits. “I’m saying: ‘Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.’ ”

Lucas seized control of his movies from the studios only to discover that the fanboys could still give him script notes. “Why would I make any more,” Lucas says of the “Star Wars” movies, “when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?”

Sounds like someone who has passed through here at least once. I can't recall if Ady ever commented on this article as it certainly sounds like he's referencing Revisited.

Everytime I read Lucas complaining about complaints, I picture a big baby with a beard, great hair, and a flannel shirt crying his head off.

I feel sorry for George Lucas, but I think he brought a lot of it on himself. It would have been so easy for him to fix some of the things we complain about, yet he didn't. I don't think he's a bad man in any way--just a bit of a softy and perhaps a bit apathetic towards Star Wars fans. I don't blame him though. When he comes across people like generalfrievous on the internet, he gets a bad impression and probably loses all his desire to please fans.
