Ben Affleck cast as new Batman — Page 3

There is no way those are Ben's real muscles :-D

Doesn't look laughably bad though.

The proof of the pudding is the story. And if the Zackrecord is anything to go on....

Surely the director should have made Synderman?

Batman has had short ears before in his long history.

Why would you have veins on a rubber suit? We're back in Schumacher territory already? ;)

Where were you in '77?

Looks like they're basing him on the Dark Knight Returns Batman:

I dont have high hopes for this film because Man of Steel left me very bleh.

But that costume IMHO is heads and shoulders above the Bale Batman costumes.

And Affleck rules. Time will tell.

That is a very stupid batsuit, but that's alright -- I wasn't planning on watching this movie anyway.

There's silly-looking veins, but at least there really is no bat-nipples. That counts for something, right? I'm not sure it's terribly consistent, but that's another discussion.

I like Affleck, but the suit looks... not that great. The inspirations are obvious, but it doesn't look convincing enough when you actually dress a guy like that. Then again maybe they're abandoning that gritty realism idiocy that's been plaguing superhero movies for the last couple of years and going way over the top again. That's the only way this look has a chance of not being completely out of place, I think. I like the cowl, though.

Anyway, Zack Snyder is such a huge deterrent for me, especially after MoS, that I don't think anything can turn me off of this movie more than I already am.

This looks like Batman is punching the Joker for attempting to fondle his crotch. I think that pose should've gone through one more revision. Or maybe it's just the angle.

That aside, they've been name-dropping TDKR since the very beginning so the suit isn't a surprise. They went overboard with the muscles and the veins, though. Unless they prove that Affleck really is that ripped and veiny enough for those to show through his costume.

It's not veins by the way. Here's a hi-res close up:

Ah, that looks much better. I missed the symbol on his chest as well and I was wondering what's up with that.

I stand corrected!

I don't think Bats should be more buff than Supes though. ;)

Superman has alien muscles so he shouldn't look too buff.

I thought the swimmer look that Singer chose fitted the character better, Superman sort of swims in the sky...

...

*shudder*

Batman is a human so to do all the acrobatic things he does he needs to be buff.

So arguably it makes more sense if Batman looks more pumped up than Superman but the falsies... I've never liked them since Keaton and I don't like them now.

Frankly, I prefer both Superman and Batman to have lean musculature. I hate the whole Schwarzennegar look on them.

I can see Batman with roid rage not Superman.

Is the movie actually in production, or is this some sort of test shoot?

^That is much better.

If Batman has to look more bat-like why doesn't he wear dark brown.

Batman should wear dark blue and grey and have a brassy coloured utility belt. The blacksuit is another thing I haven't enjoyed since Keaton.

I think it's still in pre-production. This just may be from publicity photo shoots or costume tests.

I didnt mind the black suit, as long as the yellow circle and belt were there. Without it, I just didn't like it.

The new Star Trek, both recent Superman's, this Batman.

It's the era of REALLY ELABORATE TINY TINY TEXTURE!

Which I guess is better than the everyone in leather era.

The yellow circle made no sense. It's like having a target to shoot at!!

I think someone made a retro-excuse that he had a target on his chest because that's where he had the most armor.

I however don't need an excuse. I don't mind the "S" standing for Superman, or Batman having a cool logo, or Wolverine in yellow spandex.

'S' stands for hope ;)

And the "A" on Captain America's mask is actually his health rating if he was a restaurant.

The superhero thing is not my genre, in spite of enjoying films like AVENGERS and BATMAN '89 quite a bit.

I was into SPIDERMAN comics as a kid.

I have not been a fan of this unconventional casting, though guys like Keaton did very well with their parts. Too much defiance of expectations. I'm sure I would have felt this way as a nine year-old, as much as I would have wanted to see a high budget FX Spiderman.

To me, a comic book superhero should come straight out of Central Casting. They should be ruggedly good looking and built like Olympic swimmers or gymnasts. I think Affleck is close enough.

When I was a kid, I fantasized of being like the comicbook Peter Parker.

I feel certain that those films were  COMMERCIALLY successful IN SPITE of their unconventional heroes and not because of them. I must believe that, had they cast the comic book type with equal acting ability, those movies would have done as well or better.

The first Batman annual I got given for christmas (I was five) had batman in Purple&Blue so that's what I consider to be the definitive look...
