So sad I missed out on the awesome exclusive deal. So jealous of the 5 that got that code!

There is a difference. The code means no trial is necessary.  The trial requires a credit card.

How is Mr. Kaminski doing by the way, he hasn't been around in quite some time.

I believe it's been over a year since I've heard from him and since any of my communication with him has been successful.

 Okay fair enough, my apologies.

Is there a possibility to download the mp3 without installing a 3rd party software?
As in, without using AudibleManager to download it? No, I don't think so.
I wasn't really aware of until now. I had heard of audible before but never looked too much into how to get an audiobook from there until today. So yeah thought it would be easier than needing to download some software/app. In that case muchas graciashttp://s12.postimg.org/3z9utjpa1/8vxldt.gif but I'd rather not download some random software to listen to a single audio file. Someone else can use the code you gave me instead.

This guy's voice

is actually a processed line of John Wayne dialogue.

I've always wondered if it was possible to somehow hear the original John Wayne audio... like, untangle the "scratched" audio clip from Mr. Longnose McSnitch here, and "pilgrim" will come out.... or maybe ask Ben Burtt, I suppose.

And I'd really love to hear the audiobook... Not only is it "Secret History", but narrated by Geoff Peterson... Oh myyyy!

If ryanvb doesn't return to this thread in two days and doesn't decide to give the code to someone else I'll give you the one I got.

Yes. I'm old. ;)
Maybe that's the reason I don't get why people have to have a phone that can do everything except maybe drycleaning. I use the phone to call other people, nothing more, nothing less.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that I won the audiobook. I'm just sick of all the "you have to have this device with that software to play/watch/listen our stuff" stuff (same reason why I haven't bought the Making Of ebooks. No PC compatibility, no buy!). I got a movie for free the other day. Downloaded it but never watched it, because I could only watch it on my PC, because you needed special software to watch it. Instead of just copying it to my external HDD and watch it on my TV. I use winamp for mp3s und MPC for all other stuff, so I'm good, thank you.

Anyway, I'm converting the audiobook to mp3 and get rid of the audible software again.

Same here, but I do get why you'd want to carry one device instead of several. Battery life issues alone make a smartphone too much of a hassle to me, though, so I'm fine carrying around my mp3 player.

DRM, compatibility etc. are an entirely different story, and with that I agree.

Anyway, as far as any permissions go, personally I think it's cool people care enough to do this, although on the flip side I don't think audio-books are suited to anything like this (e.g. academic books). My publisher might not be as nice about this, but I can pretty much guarantee you that my publisher would never even consider an audio book, so it's not like any business would be lost. I guess the only concern would be over the quality. That would be my main concern too, because it's hard for to envision an audio version of this book that isn't boring, but maybe I lack imagination.

And here, exactly 2 years later, someone shows up handing out codes for an official audiobook, which by the way sounds FANTASTIC. The reader does a Lucas impression. It's so great.

My phone is one device that...

Makes calls.
Texts.
Emails.
Carries 20 GB of music.
Accesses the internet (even this site!)
Holds my calendar.
Carries books.
Plays games.
Takes pictures.
Takes movies.
Plays movies.

And does over 9,000 other things.  And it even has a spare battery!

I don't just want my phone, I need my phone.

...

Oh, and to get back on topic, it takes pictures of my kitchen sans George Lucas.

I've heard dozens or possibly hundreds of offers to sign up for a trial of Audible and get a free book. But you, sir, have just made the suggestion to finally get me to do it.

I mean, I'm not gonna buy anything, but I do want to check out the book!

My stance on revising fan edits.

I KNEW this sounded familiar!!... I'm not going batty, then.

It's Josh Robert Thompson, check out this video where he's in full Lucas makeup

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV7PnPnjNYI

he's best known for his Arnold Schwarzenegger voice, whose phone calls have been known to fool people. He's also known for his Morgan Freeman impression (he did it to his face, and the man called it "outstanding").

That sounds very annoying. What are you doing while it does that?

I know it's not nice to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I have to say, if I had paid the $34.44 for the Audio book I'd expect a better sound quality.

Make sure you're downloading the "Enhanced" quality audio files.  There's 5 different quality levels you can download with varying file sizes.  The audiobook should be 727MB at full audio quality.

I'd think he'd be best known as Craig Ferguson's robot skeleton. Pretty awesome that they got him to do this. Especially considering it's 24 hours long!

Just finished listening to chapter 1. It's very compelling, especially with the passable Lucas impression. I feel like Lucas himself is narrating somewhat.

Very enjoyable so far, and many hours left.
