You were in the right, he was just pathetic because he either googled himself, or someone told him, and felt the need to register and "teach us a lesson".

Also, just for fun, try to google "totalbiscuit is an asshole" and see how many other words of choice about him you can spot, just in the first page.

It's the saddest bloody thing ever. Where people bloody re-edit big budget movies...why they changed this, why they cut that, how to do your own edits...Oh my god!!

It's one thing to complain about bad movies with a bunch of saddo nerds, but to waste your life away re-editing them and talking about why your version of the movie is the best...well call me whatever you like, but Jesus this is sad beyond all sadness.

Difference is I'm not going to mobilize the troops for an invasion...and if you don't see the difference between wanting to improve a movie and listening to a radio show about WoW, I feel bad for you.

There's no evidence that he "mobilized" anyone. Did people from his site come here? Yes. Is the only explanation for that, that he made a call to action to come over here and show us what for? No. It's just as likely that he vented about it on twitter or wherever and they found their own way over here.

There were only maybe two antagonistic people from his camp. The rest came in here explaining why they're into WoW or asking why we can't get along. Meanwhile, C3PX kept trying to stir the pot and insulting everyone.

What it boils down to is this. Originaltrilogy.com is a community. Fanedit.org is a community. WoW is a community. People meet, bond, even marry thanks to that game. So of course there are going to be things like fansites and *gasp* even podcasts about this thing that millions of people have gotten a lot of satisfaction out of.

I've never spent a second of my life playing WoW but I can respect those that do.

Well said.

The fact that in all the interwebs more than one WoW Radio listener found their way here to complain about a complaint about being 'forced' to listen to their station (not that it exists but someone by virtue of occupying a particular space had no choice but listen to it) would seem to indicate a concerted effort to get more than one respondent.

Incidentally the domain is now owned by a Scottish dept management company which is the saddest thing ever, next to octopuses being forced to do data entry jobs for the amusement of tapirs.

Well that might have been how the internet worked back in your day, but since you've gone away and gotten super old, things have changed.

Also, this thread (and Tobar's insanity) have inspired me to send a PM to C3PX to see what the hell he's up to these days.

Tobar's message of peace among nerds is as sane as it gets.

HotRod said:

Can I just say, the reason for that post way back when, was because I was made to suffer WoW radio at work on a daily basis!

Each to their own, but it was something I really didn't need to listen to day after day...

TB's other podcast were quite amusing...It was just the WoW bollox that got to me...

I mean, who really gives a fuck about how much health you need to take down a fucking penguin, or whatever it was!!

Seriously, what's your problem with that? Some people argue about Yoda's lightsaber, some people play RPGs, some people watch movies religiously and discuss them with equal passion and some listen to podcasts about WoW penguins.

And yeah, people do care about discussing game mechanics, design, balance or whatever the context for whacking something over the head until it drops was for the discussion that ticked you off the same way people discuss framing, lighting etc. in the case of movies. Different medium, different discussions to be had.

You seem to have (had?) a problem with the fact that someone inflicted something you didn't like upon you which in itself isn't anything bad (I'd be rather angry in your position), but then you really do proceed to act... rudely, as Tobar put it. Not to mention that you're really in no position to be condescending, considering this is a message board dedicated to movies about magic space knights and discussions about altering a speck on a stormtrooper's crotch someone spotted while repeatedly going through a two hour movie frame by frame (which is one of the reasons I genuinely love this community).

tl;dr:

Come on, it's just a bloody game.
Does anyone really care? No.
Sort it out

This is objectively not true.

Fundamentally there is no difference, even if personally I'd say that "improving a movie" (even partaking or just following a discussion that may or may not lead to a movie being improved) is a better use of my time than listening to a WoW podcast.

In case anyone's wondering: I don't play MMOs. I rather dislike them and consider them a waste of life.

I was here and remember the thread, but WOW radio sounds so boring I simply never clicked on it. I assumed it was about WOW radio... foolish I know.

Before I'm accused of hypocrisy, I should point out that I find most of the Star Wars discussion here quite boring as well.

But you guys who think HotRod was the rude one, I'm at a loss for words.

Also, exactly how much health do you need to take down a penguin?  Is it eight?

Penguins are the highest form of life in the universe and are indestructible.

No, that's dogs you're thinking of. And only about half of them are.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure HotRod was just venting frustration about an annoying coworker who didn't seem to own headphones, and I totally understand his frustration because I totally know how it is to have to listen to someone droning on and on about stuff you're just not interested in.

My only issue with the whole debacle was what Tobar brought up: the weird cliquishness (even though I'm sure most of the OT.com people were just bored and trolling as usual because lol making people madbro) and the lack of tolerance of fellow nerds with different interests.

I'm sure just about 80% of the people I know in real life would rather put a bullet in their own heads than have me put on an episode of the hypothetical Adywan's Revisited Podcast where he talks about the minute differences only people who have watched Star Wars frame-by-frame would ever notice* and how he fixed them, and just about 90% of the people I know are Star Wars fans. Just like I'd rather put a bullet in my head than listen to some weeaboo blather on and on about whatever anime is popular right now.

I don't mean that we should all hold hands and sing kumbaya and love each other as brothers, I don't even think you need to respect what they like, but I feel like we should all be able to identify with the fact that they're obsessed with their stuff like we're obsessed with preserving a forty-year-old film; I mean, if nothing else we're in a glass house swinging on a wrecking ball like Miley Cyrus.

*As a note, my original example was "a hypothetical OT.com podcast where darklordoftech talks about why the Sith suck for hours on end" but I'm pretty sure that would cause suicidal tendencies in anyone.

The difference being you have to actively seek out places like this to be exposed to ideas like those presented here.

If you are occupied in a place where ideas you find nonsensical are an unavoidable pollutant you have every right to vent about it.

When the creators and fans of the pollutant then invade the place where you are venting you have every right to express your lack of regard for the pollutant.

If I had to work somewhere where Jeremy Kyle or some evangelical station was playing I would be similarly pissed off.

I used to work in a factory where my co-workers to a man would not shut up about porn magazines, using women sexually, mocking ethnic minorities and gays and similarly insane shit. I used silicone ear-plugs (under the guise of protecting my ears from machine noise) to blot out what they were saying.

I'm not saying WoW talk is in the same league but it is a pollutant if you don't want to hear it.
