I just got the call back.  They claim that they have transferred what they say is a 1977 VHS to DVD format and are projecting that.
I'm at a complete loss for words. That's going to be The Worst Thing Ever.

Nothing like projecting a 240i image on a "5 story, 79ft. diameter tilted, domed screen"

I find it sad that they actually have an article devoted to Yoda's lightsaber.

I'd be surprised if they end up showing the VHS version. Can they seriously think it'll look decent on an Omnimax screen?

I can't comprehend it, but I don't doubt it.

This one time I attended what was supposed to be a screening of Blade Runner. I didn't expect much and indeed it was just a large TV, a dvd copy of The Final Cut and a discussion afterwards. But whatever, I'm always in for anything Blade Runner.

So the guys responsible for putting this together set everything up, played the movie, sat back pleased with themselves and apparently didn't notice and/or care that the aspect ratio was wrong (an issue with the TV). I waited for a while to see whether anyone pointed that out. Nope. And those were supposed to be film enthusiasts.

I'd love to hear/read people's reactions if that's what they'll end up doing. I'd even go myself if it wasn't literally on the other side of the planet.

That's the best Wookiepedia article ever!

So that's what those things are. I admit I was a bit curious.

Anyway, how can they think that projecting an ancient, beat-up VHS on a huge screen is a good idea? That's preposterous!

What a maroon!

If only he understood that Star Wars isn't sic-fi.

That's not the issue, because he's arguing that it isn't (it's entirely possible I'm giving him too much credit, though). I can see how associating Star Wars with sf can give the latter a bad name, but that's not the fault of either Star Wars or its creator.

The article reminded me of this interview:

Beale seems more interested in looking for a (click-baity) scapegoat and seeking validation than in identifying the actual problem. Who needs logic anyway, right?

Maybe he's just blue because there is apparently no new Matrix sequel in the works? ;)

Where were you in '77?

Ugh.  Somebody send those fools the DVD5 copy of Despecialized Edition 2.0, pronto!

What are you talking about? A new trilogy is practically confirmed:

(in all seriousness, though, I'd be really surprised if WB wasn't kicking around the idea of making more)

As I've said elsewhere, it wouldn't surprise me if Agent Smith and Morpheus doing tv commercials lately was a way to gauge interest in new movies.

What a maroon!

"Hey everyone, look how cool I am for having an unpopular opinion about something popular! Man, I wish people knew what REAL Sci-Fi was so I could have some people on my own (very high) intellectual level to talk about Asimov and other awesome obscure authors with instead of these moronic plebs with their Star Wars. God. It's so hard to be the coolest and smartest person ever."

What a hacky pile of written masturbation. I had to quit reading before I cut myself on all that edge. I can still hear him tipping his fedora from here.

He's the guy who wrote that Will Smith movie about 20th century footwear, right?

Your post was hard to interpret over the internet. It didn't seem very joking...

Apologies: the internet is a really shit platform for the subtleties of the language...

I just felt he deserved some mocking for acting like he was the only person in the world who knew what true Sci-Fi is.
