Episode VII Cast List Announced — Page 3

It's been reported that Han Solo will be the central character in episode 7.  Hmmm...will Ford get the death he's always asked for?

I hope not. He's my favourite character...

I don't know any of these young actors other than John Boyega and Oscar Isaac.  Oscar did well with what he was given in Inside Llewyn Davis (a bore of a movie).  But Boyega was a total badass in Attack the Block.  If you haven't seen it you should.  It's awesome -- and available via Netflix mail.

Max von Sydow's one of my favourite actors, so I'm pleased that he's part of the cast. Everyone else, though (apart from the OT actors), I'm indifferent to (largely because I haven't seen most of them in anything).

I like that I don't know most of them, just like when I saw Star Wars for the first time, I just believed they were the characters, as I didnt know any of them as actors.

I'm just pleased they didn't cast whomever is popular right now. And that the lesser known actors they did cast are actual actors, not Twilight fanbase-bait. And Max von Sydow is as good as it gets, obviously.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this cast. I bet Andy Serkis will play a CG character.

I hope he isn't there to do that (and by that I mean I hope there won't be a CG character), but sadly he's the go-to guy for that sort of thing.

I like Andy Serkis, but calling him a legend alongside Max von Sydow is just bizarre.

Not bad, overall.

Why aren't people mad that Denis Lawson isn't on the cast list?

Because Lando played way more important part than Wedge. He was significant plot twist in ESB when he betrayed Han and later helped his friends to escape, saved Han in ROTJ and led the Rebel fighters attack on DS 2. Would be nice to see Wedge as high rank commander of the New Republic Forces, though.

I don't really know most of the actors. So I am not excited or anything. As others have already commented, I miss BDW and Denis Lawson on the list. I hope they will appear in the films.

Well you might mistake Ford intention to kill Han for the ROTJ. Some fans were led to believe he wanted to "benefit" the story which is ridiculous. It was especially popular in the peak of Lucas hating days. Back then Ford just wanted to free himself of Star Wars in order to be able to focus on other films.

Now I don't think he wants Han dead. Otherwise he wouldn't even agree to be in the film.

wtf is it with these ugly faces in the cast. not to mention the blatant affirmative action. not every fucking movie does have to have a token black guy Hollywood. and just screw the np lookalike. hope this movie blows

I feel like the absence of Billy Dee, Lawson, Bulloch and other people doesn't exactly mean they won't show up at some point down the line.
Boba's dead, man. It's time to accept that and move on.

I get the feeling that you won't be around for long. :)

I must say it is refreshing to see some criticism in contrast.

I think Abrams knows that Han Solo is the key to grabbing that casual fan as you see him him sitting next to Ford for the table-read.

Don't get me wrong, I love Luke Skywalkers character as the OT was really about him, but Han Solo made Star Wars cool, and brought in a fanbase other then SciFi nerds.

The Prequels really lacked a Han Solo type character, and you could even say that ROTJ lacked his coolness as he was relegated to a secondary role to the Vader/Emperor/Luke faceoff.

I like that JJ took some young actors that are not just all pretty boys/girls but looks like they have some charisma in them.

Just looked at the unknown Daisy Ridley's pictures on google and you can say that she's not just the next hot girl in town. She is really expressive.

here's a short movie with her: http://vimeo.com/63567146

And in the Star Wars meeting picture she's just between Ford and Fisher... does it means she's their daughter? Anyway, very pleased with that casting so far.

I'm totally fine with no Lando or Wedge (or General Madine)

I don't need the universe shrinking that, despite 30 years, the same people are still interacting during whatever specific adventure this film will be

Does anyone else think Ridley bears more than a passing resemblance to Natalie Portman? I mean that in a good way if she is playing Leia's daughter.

I remember my mom's reaction when I told her the cast for Episode I: "Is Harrison Ford in it? Then why would I care?"

In the facial promo shot they use everywhere, yeah, one could say she looks "Portmanish" but in pretty much all other pictures I've seen she looks more like a pretty and charmisatic girl next door à la young Carrie Fisher. (not saying shes looks like her, just that she looks... I don't know... more Star Warsish than Portman ever was? lol)

Certainly a different type of legend. But still a legend, I would argue.

Well, I was trying to be optimistic up till now, but if you wanna here some thoughts from an industry insider (I work in LA)...

Some of these actors are not proven commodities and may suck and/or not be able to carry a movie.  Harrison Ford hasn't done any good acting work in years --his Ender's Game performance was so bad it hurt.  Hopefully JJ can pull what is needed out of these thespians, but it is by no means a sure thing and/or even that likely.

I'd say it's pretty likely. Were Hamill, Ford, or Fischer proven commodities in 76?

What about the cast of JJ's Star Trek? Pine, Quinto, Saldana, Yelchin, etc. were less proven than Isaac, Driver, Boyega, and Gleeson. Urban is analogous to Serkis, and I think Serkis is better. Yeah, ST09 also had Pegg, Ryder, and Greenwood, but this has Max von Sydow.

As for the returning cast members - I'm not too worried. We'll see.

There's a good amount of people who are complaining about the lack of minority and female characters.  There will always be somebody who isn't satisfied.  Doesn't matter to me as long as the characters and story are well written.
