How about a game of Japanese Chess, i.e. Shogi? Now playing Shogi4 — Page 61

Whoever wrote this game gave the pieces far too long descriptions, as I can't actually read the complete moves for all of them.  I'm also having a harder time remembering what the pieces do.  But I feel silly, because the Flying Falcon is a bishop-like piece, and the Cloud Eagle is capable of ranging orthogonally forwards and backwards.  So there is a bit more range than I gave the game credit.  I've got to try to memorize these names a bit more.  Doesn't help that they are all such silly animal names, so it's hard to remember which silly animal does what.

So there is a bishop-like piece! I didn't notice it until now. I have to hover over all the pieces to find the one you want to move every time, but hopefully I'll get the pieces and their moves figured out soon. A lot of them are the same as regular pieces (like gold and silver generals), so it's a bit of a bother to remember new names for old pieces, and with an asymmetrical board, there are almost twice as many pieces to learn as there would be otherwise.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to keep straight.  I may need to print off a page of piece moves for this one.  The Chu Shogi pieces I used made it easy to keep things straight with the little diagrams on each piece.  This is very difficult to remember.

I think you might have been egging me on there a bit yourself, buddy.  I did try to get your SW, and I almost fell for it, and only happened to get lucky and not make my original move.  Don't act so innocent with me ;)

I had no idea how close I was to checkmate until I took a look at the RR's promoted value...

Sorry bud.  I didn't realize either till I tested out the promotion as well, then realized that only your Treacherous Fox would protect you were I to get my Running Rabbit safely on 8i and promoted it.  I don't think you can stop me this game.  But I'm happy to play again, since I don't think we've had a single drop.

Well, I see no point in continuing. Would you rather backtrack or start over?

Probably start over.  I think we both have a better grasp on piece moves now, and I think we'd both play differently.  Let's play Wa again.

I'll get us going to move things along.  VS-5j
