Who'd like to try a chess variant? Now playing Xiang Qi, a.k.a. Chinese chess — Page 8

No, you won't get a stalemate.  I have forced you into a position where your king always has a move available, and nothing more, and I'm in a position to promote my pawn without interference.  If I played correctly, I could even mate you without promoting the pawn, though it's a little riskier.  But since a pawn can promoted to a piece of either army, it's only a matter of time and making sure I don't promote (to a queen of course) when your king is on a7 and your last pawn is stuck.  The outcome is inevitable.  Sorry.

You're right. I thought that because you hadn't moved your waffle over to where my king is I would be able to prevent your pawns from reaching the end and avoid checkmate. But I moved one turn too late and can't get to your pawns anymore.

You can checkmate me in two moves now.

Tsk, tsk, watch your typos. It should be:

Qe7+

Kb8

Qb7

The game could have ended in stalemate if things progressed as follows after I moved my king:

Qc8

Pxg2

Kxg2 = stalemate

For some reason I wasn't even thinking that you would just move your queen to e7, but I guess that was the most obvious way to go.

Well, that was fun. What army/armies do you want to play with next?

Thanks for catching the typos.  I thought I'd paid more attention, but I'm cleaning house between moves.  I had actually tried to post before, but you know how this site sometimes gives random errors.

In any case, I'm glad you had fun, and I did too.  I'm up for any armies you like.  You suggested an alphabetical rotation, so probably Nutty Knights vs. Colorbound Clobberers.  If you agree, you are welcome to whichever army you'd feel more comfortable with, and you may even choose white if you like.  Again, I suggest you choose the more familiar army (in this case, the Clobberers), but you are welcome to either one.

Sure, let's play with the NNs as white and the CCs as black. You can play the NNs. If you'd rather play black, then I'll switch them around.

Well, I won the last game, so I don't mind if you'd rather play white.  So why don't you go ahead and make the first move.

You can use abbreviations for the pieces, if you want. I'm pretty sure I can figure them out, as long as you use different ones for every piece. CR, CN, C, and F work just fine, and I will be using B, W, F, and C. I'm not worried about getting the two F's mixed up because we have different armies, but I'd rather not spell out the piece name every time.

Alright.  I figured you were smart enough, but I just wanted to avoid any confusion before.  e4

*sigh* I'm off to a bad start again. Hopefully I don't make another silly mistake.
