If that is indeed an AT-AT foot, I would be really happy to see AT-ATs in the desert (or anywhere new, for that matter).

That's what I thought. :)
They almost built a full size walker foot for ESB, but decided for time and budget reasons to have ILM do the crushed snowspeeder shot.
Where were you in '77?
Mmmm... AT-ATs...
Loved them when I was a kid. It'll be great to see them back on the screen again.

It will just be a single AT-AT foot in the middle of the desert just to visualize what's left of the Empire.
You read it here first ;)
Hoping that this is the case and its just a foot symbolizing the defeat of the empire.
Though without a known antagonist at the time I'm also willing to believe we're going to see a rejuvenated Empire due to a secret cadre of Sith lords Palpatine never talked about training. With all the secret Sith popping up in EU stories like Clone Wars and the new 3D animated show it wouldn't surprise me.
I dunno, all this talk of Hoth, Tatooine and AT-ATs worries me. I'm pretty sure those films were already made?
I have a feeling they're going to ruin the OT all over again by reviving the empire, and resurrecting Darth Vader and/or the emperor. Abrams is completely incapable of doing anything original anyways, so he will revive the empire for marketing purposes. I mean how can they make a Star Wars movie without darth vader or stormtroopers? It would mean the film makes $150 million instead if $500 million.
I truly believe that this "original story" is going to be a miss mash of different stories from the EU piled into one.
looking for HDTV of the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

I may have said this before, but if Disney have got brains they'll know that the ammount of money that the ST makes at the boxoffice is kind of irrelevant. What matters is creating new, strong and exploitable intellectual properties that people engage with. So making cr*p PT style movies won't give them strong properties and just copying the OT won't give them new properties.
Only by creating 3 popular, acclaimed movies centered around new characters, new places and new stories, will they maximise the return on their investment.
So it's in Disney's financial interest to create something fresh and not "just put Vader in it". Whether or not they recognise this fact, is yet to be seen. They recognised that fact back in the 90s when they made an effort to create more new quality films despite the difficulty and expense of producing them. So a quarter century later, money is still pouring in from 'Beauty and the Beast' T-Shirts and 'Little Mermaid' lunchboxes as a result.
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.
^Ryan's got the best points.
Disney doesn't need Vader to sell this movie. You know what's a more iconic image than Vader? The Star Wars logo. Boom. That's all they need.
What Disney's primary goal should be is to make sure that this film is good. If it's bad, and they keep making bad Star Wars movies, the brand will die. People will stop seeing the movies. The only way to keep high revenue with their plan of Marvel-esque yearly releases is to keep the quality high. They almost certainly understand this.
Another reason for the Empire returning is that otherwise a new conflict would have to be introduced and resolved within 3 movies. There's no post-ROTJ equivilant of the "Clone Wars" concept for them to work with this time.

Look on my works ye mighty, and despair
There's plenty of worse villain ideas than the Empire returning.
Like the Yuuzhan Vong. *shudder*
I think the best part of the image is that it's an actual AT-AT foot (or at least prop of some sort) in an actual location, instead of a green disc on a green background.

I'd take the Yuuzhan Vong over the One Sith or any such similar garbage.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.
I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Why not make the Hutt Empire the main adversary of the ST? It'd be interesting to see the Hutts invade the fragmented Empire/burgeoning New Republic and try to take control of their worlds. Frankly, it'd also be cool to see armies made up of Hutts who like this

This is a brilliant idea, duracell! I cannot put into words how much I love this idea!

For Gods' sake no! The ST would be wall-to-wall CGI then. With the greatest will in the world you can't do whole armies of imoveable puppet Hutts.

I think Empire as an enemy is completely out of scope for EP7. After 30 years even the imperial remnant would die off.

You two have a strange sense of taste. This looks utterly ridiculous to me.

I like the idea of the Hutts as the main antagonists. But the idea of Hutt warriors is pretty ridiculous.
There could be Hutts who don't sit on a throne smoking a bong all day, groping slave girls, and getting fat. They didn't accumulate all their wealth and power on personal charm alone. ;)
They could revisit the old idea that Hutts get so fat their legs disappear.
