I think that was always there. It may not be explicit in the OT, but given the monk like lives of Yoda and Obi it might be inferred.

It's also said pretty plainly in the first draft. To paraphrase:

GENERAL SKYWALKER: Hey Jedi kid. Your dad was never much in the self-control department. You existing is evidence of that.
