"The Stanford Prison Experiment,"  a famous sociology experiment, proved nothing except that people have no idea how a good experiment is designed.

When you bring it up, and I rip every single aspect of the experiment to shreds, you can't follow up with "Yeah, but don't you agree with the results anyways?"

I've studied it for uni and found it fascinating. I'm interested in hearing your rebuttal.

It's not about people being good or bad. It's the 'experiment' itself was flawed on so many levels it's not even worth reading about.

-Sample size was 24 white male Stanford students.  This is so unacceptably small as to make the experiment worthless out of hand.

-Self selection. All the volunteers specifically came in because they were attracted to an experiment about prisons. This alone would make any results borderline meaningless.

-No control group. No pre-testing. No repeatablility.

-But the main kicker for me is overwhelming bias. Zimbardo, the experimenter, specifically wanted to prove people were bad. Then he himself took a play-acting role in the experiment guiding the process. That alone makes all his results garbage.

He should have designed the experiment, then not even been involved. To jump in and manipulate it as "The Warden" changed it from science to really intense LARPing.

It wasn't an experiment by any real scientific standard. It was a publicity stunt

But did the prison really travel in time?

It did. After the 14 day experiment, they found out they had somehow moved two whole weeks into the future.

Sadly, they have no been replicated in lab conditions.

Whenever the Stanford Prison Experiment comes up, I can't help but to recall that lameass prison movie with Adrian Brody and Forest Whittaker.

Is that the one where Adrian Brody gets stuck half in and half out of the shower cubicle?

Yes exactly. If a product is unpopular and doesn't sell the people who gave the company the money to make their products in the first place have every right to require the company to find out what went wrong to try and make a popular product or fix what was unpopular about the product. That is just the way the world works.

I don't have the money or a computer to upgrade(much less a computer that is capable of handling a upgrade).   I will be sticking to XP and will see how it goes.

Scan it every week with a Linux stick and ClamAV and XP should last a wee while.

I believe "downgraded" is the word you're looking for. ;)

I still use Windows ME.

Don’t do drugs, unless you’re with me.

Ouch.  Mistake Edition?  Well, if it works for you, I suppose... I never had much luck with that one.

I stand by Windows XP but I'm comfortable on Windows 7 as well.  Skipped Vista after not enjoying the beta enough to warrant the upgrade.

I got a laptop (not the one I'm currently using) with Windows 8 pre-installed on it for free. I'm not fond of it's ... peculiarities ... either, though I've accustomed myself enough to it so it doesn't bother me anymore.

Window 8's version of MS Paint is still an aggravating pain in the ass to use, though.

I'm happy with Windows 7. I don't plan on ever getting a new computer until Windows 9 comes out (assuming Windows 9 follows the more traditional Windows layout, rather than continuing down the same path as Windows 8).

Yeah that kind of ultra dark stuff plus garbage like One more day really turned me off comics.  The last comic I read and enjoyed was Tom Strong. Now that is how comic books should be done.

That last one may be the single most Fed up thing I have ever seen. What is wrong with these people? They wonder why sales of comics are in the toilet but the movies are doing so well,it's because the movies don't do stuff like that.  In the movies the heroes are still heroes and they are full of bold adventure not shocking murder and I don't know what else to call that last one. A word has yet to be invented that expresses how completely messed up that last one was. I feel ill.

I am so glad I pretty much gave up on comics after reading One more day.
