I too would love to play KOTOR, but I honestly can't stand turn-based combat. I think this new X-men game looks like of interesting, but it seems to be totally turn-based as well?

The new Xmen game is not turn based, as far as I know. It is an action RPG.

Luke and Win, KotoR is turn based, and an RPG, but the fight animation happens in real time--it is nothing like final fantasy. There are also several minigames. Pazzack is a card game that is basically Sabaac with out the Ryn face cards, there is a swoop racing track on at least three worlds, and you can shoot down Sith fighters when escaping from the Leviathan, (think ancient Star Destroyer). As far as leveling-up goes, you can let the computer do the whole thing with a tap of a button. Or you can customize your character. You can even Auto-upgrade your stats, and separatley choose for yourself which Forcepowers you get.

The combat itself is sort of hard to describe in few words. When you first encounter an enemy, the game pauses and lets you decide to run or fight, but there is no swithcing from movement to battle engine. You can give your three people up to four commands for a total of twelve before unpausing the game, and they will excecute them on their own, You can pause the action at anytime during a fight to survey the area, switch who you're controling, and give them commans. But you never have to pause the game, it is just helpful. There is a hotbar at the bottom left of the screen that allows you to pick special actions, such as critical strike, throw grenade, or Force powers, or use drugs and medpacks.

That is all I can think of right now. I don't want to spoil any of the plot for you.

see everything there sounds awesome except for the whole combat thing....
i want to be in control of my fighting... not just making decisions and then watching the computer make it look pretty....

i've always hated that aspect of RPG games...
it totally brings bordom to a new high....

thats just what i find anyway

Trust me. The combat in KotoR is never boring. You don't just sit there and let it happen, you have to make desciions. In some of the most intense battles, you might get wasted and end up with 30% health, but if you can use strategic skill, or just luck and turn it around. It is really satisfying snatching victory from the jaws of defeat (yeah, that was cliche)

You just have to try it. Rent it or something.

No, you will not regret spending the 20 hours it takes to beat KOTOR, I loved every minute of it.

Don't forget, KOTOR II: The Sith Lords is coming out in December.

Are most of your other games equipped with a hands-free neural transmitter or something? From my experience, I thought all games relied on you pressing a button/key/mouse-click to make things happen. If you mean some sort of elaborate 10-button combination (like the Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat/Tekken type games) then no, there's nothing like that. The combat system is actually pretty slick.

And it should be noted that you CAN drop out of combat in the middle of fighting. Sure, the baddies will still attack you (and you'll still block with your lightsaber), but it will let you move around and get important things done... remember the "droid room" toward the end? Woulda been kind of hard to get that done if all you could do was hack away with your saber. (I hope I kept that satisfactorily spoiler-free.)
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

Any body here try Prince of Persia, Sands of Time?

Pretty good. I think I like it bette than Ninja Gaiden.

I might check it out then, since I consider Ninja Gaiden is the best console game yet (maybe not better than Halo, though).

..If you don't like action games and don't like RPGs, what do you like, Luke?

BTW, Windexed, most of my dislike for Ninja Gaiden stems from the fact that someone (my brother or the son of my dad's girlfriend) saved a game on level one over my game on level six. Right as it was getting interesting, I had to start over, and it was sort of a turn off. That and the fact that it is too freakin' hard to only play every two weeks and expect to be anygood.

PoP-SoT outdoes Gaiden in navigation, better wall-running... stuff like that. But the combat is relatively easy and just as repetitive, maybe more so.

not a bad game... good on scares and definatly a change from the typical survival horror elements that both Resident Evil and Silent Hill have perfected...

Although I think piracy is a bad thing, I too, would be ashamed to purchase that game in front of actual people.
I'd be ashamed to DL it, for that matter.

So, is Battlefront any good?

you'd be afraid to DL it?????
why?
you must not have been a fan of the earlier games then.... they were tons of fun...

if your asking me about battlefront... i wrote a small review of what i thought about the game..
its was alright.. but i would choose either of the Battlefield games over Battlefront anyday...

I rented the XBox version this weekend.

Well. The mechanics are solid, and it looks and sounds like StarWars. I think the biggest thing is the single player mode needs work. In every battle, it seems that nothing ever matters becasue every fight devolves into a deathmatch, even if your objective is something simple like kill the fambas that are generating the Gungan's shields. The fambas are nearly invincible, so it ultimately becomes a mission of slaughtering the gungans who leave the shield like morons. If they grouped together inside the shield, there is no way you could win.

Also, there arent enough weapon variations. Every character gets just two weapons and can't trade out. And your allies are always incredibly stupid. You cant even take an AT-AT down with a cable unless you have two semi-intellignet humans playing, because the CPU won't fire the cable, or fly in circles around the legs.

Something that would help tremendously is splitscreen multiplayer. I didn't even realize that there was none. In fact, I would've rented MK Deception if I knew it was only systemlink or live.

Over all, I give it a Seven/Ten, and if you can play online, up the score to an Eight.

seriously, anyone familiar with the Warhammer 40,000 universe and story line should definitely play Dawn of War... great game, albeit too short.
