bigrob, you know that I'm interesting in doing that one... if Doc could make an unapproved 2.70:1 version, who am I to NOT do an approved 1.90:1 version based on laserdisc? (^^,)

ah, it is still on your list! thought you forgot about it!

look forward to the SPORV version then ;)

No spoRv version, sorry, "only" ruLes version (restored using Laserdisc sources)... (^^,) but you must have some patience, though! I'll start a new thread when it will be the moment, don't worry.

Thanks Docsap! Some of the users on TPB are a bit of wankers, though.

Indeed - major wankers who obviously can't read a detailed description when there is one (the comments are quite funny that way...) However, TPB is open to all, which is why I reposted it there, as many people don't know or can't manage to get onto MySpleen.

True. That's why I always prefer to read descriptions on Torrents. Of course I'd also prefer download links on TehParadox with 200mb or 400mb, easier when I'm Premium, with upload.to/.net since torrents can get a bit sluggish for some projects. So a Vortex or Viva Elite 2-Disc for the coverart?

Right now, as I type this, Cinemax in the USA is running a new HD master of The Abyss in 2.35. It is definitely HD and not the same master as the Japanese HD. I tuned in late but it is going to air tomorrow also. I am going to DVR it. It would be nice if someone with good capture equipment can get a copy.

A question: will you be able to record it 1:1 with your DVR?

Don't think so, I have a macbook so I need a way to capture HDMI to USB2/3 which I don't have at the moment. Let me see what I can try.

Forgot to ask: theatrical or special edition? If it's the latter - the one I prefer - if you, or someone else, could capture it, and send it to me, I hereby promise to make a [spoRv] version with both PCM and AC3 taken from laserdisc, bit-perfect... if you would like to see it, of course!

The special edition is definitely the best version.

Yes and ironically on the Cinemax web sight it says it is the Director's Cut but the stated runtime matches the theatrical.

A decent capture of the theatrical version would still be useful.  The extended scenes could be taken from other sources.

Since I started the talk on the new HDTV copy, I'll get some pics. The colors have been Cameron-ized by the way

We'll set the color back... (^^/)

As promised, I did a quick capture of the beginning with my game capture card (it screws up the frames so it is not much use as a capture device):

And compared to the Japanese HDTV broadcast, not exact frames (I did this super quick):

Apart the "cameronized" color grading, the new cap has more details on all sides... yes, it is a good source to use for a project!

DocSap, as this thread is about your project, would you like to do this "upgrade"?

Are all the great directors getting colorblind with the age? Or do they think the "blu" means that the movies should get blue/cyan/green tint?

While the new cap might have Cameronized colors, the old one has a nasty pink look (a bit like Aliens had) and is not ideal either, so I'll take the new.
