Speaking of mobile games. This apparently just launched today:

STAR WARS ASSAULT TEAM

Been playing it this morning. Pretty fun and surprisingly firmly set in-universe. Lots of little nods to things like the team Han put together in that PSP Battlefront game. Though they use ROTS Chewie. =(

Well now it all makes sense.  I do believe that will have to go on the DVD poster.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

I loved that game when I was....oh my gosh I'm old.

Also, I gave that new SW mobile game a whirl.  I think I like it, I was afraid it would have button movement controls which I hate on a phone.

It must be a pain to get the operator to connect you to Mr Solo in order to marmalise the stormtroopers.

Damn you, I'm using all my editing time to play this instead.

I have a very strong desire to check out all the new features in Artemis 2.0, but I don't have 5 other crew members to split the cost of a new bridge license.

New FTL Advanced is new. And advanced.

I'm really liking the Lanius Cruiser. I can just open all the airlocks, let all the oxygen drain out of my ship, and never have to worry about fires again. (Though the Clone Bay is a little weird.)

I bought 'Aliens: Colonial Marines' yesterday because the shop had it for just £5 brand new (About $8). I thought, I know it's supposed be bad but how bad can an Aliens game be for that price?

Turns out, pretty damn bad.

The graphics are inferior to not just the last 2010 AvP game but in some respects, they don't even hold up next to the classic Avp from 15 years ago! When you lob a grenade it is animated with less explosive impact that a party popper. The lighting is so bad and lacking in atmosphere that it doesn't even matter wether you use your lamp or flares (Something normally integral to Marine gameplay). The character models resemble waxworks with lips that barely move or synch with the dialogue.

But the worst aspect is the Aliens themselves. First off there is no build up whatsover. You are facing off against one within 3 minutes. And the very first Alien got itself stuck in the floor and just sat facing the wall while I shot it in the back. I then walked over it's body just to see what the efect was. Nothing! You don't get burned by the acid! This is an Alien game?!?

The second group of Aliens I came across was also glitched to hell. When the first one attacked I went into an automatic push-back mode and then the next attack automatically launched that same mode. and again and again until I was dead. The game woudn't let me draw my pulse rifle and defend myself properly. This is after a year of large updates and bug fixes? God knows what kind of mess people must have been facing on day one.

At points, I actually found myself pulling out my motion tracker just to hear that heartbeat sound, to manually add some atmosphere myself! I honestly can't remember a worst made game released at this level or from a pedigree gaming franchise like this.

In short, if somebody offers you this game free... I'd still advise you to think twice. It's not worth the time it takes to install even for a few pounds.

(btw Any word on the lawsuit against the developers for false advertising)

Yeah, Colonial Marines was a hot mess. It was pretty fun to play with a couple buddies though. Great game to laugh at while you play.

The new game based on ALIEN looks great though.

So today I learned that if you get Chewbacca to level up to rank 3 he turns into ROTJ Chewie. So I got that going for me which is nice...

Titanfall. anyone playing it? I'm having a blast  - and I usually tire of multi-player games quickly.

I think the game does a great job of combining a few key features in a very fluid way.

Free Running -

Get up high very quickly, wall run for great distances, jump onto the shoulders of Titans - hitch a ride on friendlies or shoot the brains out of enemies.

Titans -

stumbling around in a big mech suit is a LOT of fun and every player is equiped with powerful alternate weapons that can drop a titan quickly. This keeps you on your toes.

Epilogue -

Once the point scoring part of the game is over, the losing team have a chance to evacuate the battlefield while the winning team tries to stop them. It's a fun addition and there are big rewards to be had if you survive.

Moving forward I think it will be very interesting to see what other games take from Titanfall.

Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven (2002)

Finally finished this game. Wow. Seriously, why is this not better known? It was a fantastic game with a great story, perfect setting, the attention to the detail was amazing. It felt like a living world, there was always something happening. They seriously did their homework on this one. I had a great time with this game, the mechanics were solid. Even just driving around the city and countryside was fun.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Wow. This game was PHENOMENAL! The story was top notch, I'd even go so far as to say better than the film's. The dialog was sharp and witty with excellent characterizations all around. Not to mention how ridiculously fun it is. With fantastic gameplay that keeps you engaged and never bored. And the scope of the game is enormous. The size of some of the fights are truly epic. I really don't understand the Arkham franchises struggles with civilians now. This game was PACKED with cars and pedestrians EVERYWHERE and yet Arkham Origins and the upcoming Knight both fall back on the lame excuse of everyone being told to remain inside leaving the world only populated with enemies. Terrific game, now I can't wait for the sequel.

Nice to know this is still playable.

A few weeks ago on a lark I decided to check and see if there was an app to play text adventures on android. AND THERE TOTALLY IS. So I started playing the original ADVENTURE (1975). Still really fun, I had never played it before. My first text adventure was ZORK back in the dayBut yeah, any text adventure you want can played in that app. Really intuitive design based on around an SMS type interface.

There was talk a while back about potential lawsuits after it was revealed that the developer [Gearbox?] were given money by sega for A:CM and spent it on developing borderlands 2 instead.

from what I've heard of the development cycle the project should have been canned long before release.

After playing through in co-op mode I've been warning a lot of people to stay well away from it.

I've got high hopes for the new game - Alien Isolation but I'm preparing myself for the fact that it could also suck.

I have to say that Metroid intrigues me with its mysterious characters. One wonders about the origin of Ridley, Kraid, the Space Pirates, and Mother Brain.

Started Metro: Last Light.

First impressions, I like it, it hasn't really sucked me in yet, but still pretty good. I love having the option to sneak around and knock people out for once. I just haven't quite gotten invested in the story yet, but I'm still learning about the world.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas
