Transformers: The Movie (1986 animated version) (a WIP) — Page 4

My issues with the Aus BD is that it's 50hz and has been known to not play in a US PS3 (my main bd player), so it does me no good.  And with all of the extras in Pal as well, it's pointless for me.

Though the UK BD is barebones and with messed up sound (that irks the hell outta me), it is playable for me.

Though you can see the tracking line in one part.

That and even if you could play the pal bonus materials they are frame blended as mentioned and have pal speed up.

I cannot understand why there is no North American BD or Japanese BD, region A   I mean it was produced in those 2 countries. And if it has a market anywhere it would be in those countries in large numbers.  Not to crap all over European customers but Transformers up til a point was always a joint Japanese/USA production.

I know this is a long shot but does anyone happen to have access to the Japanese Transformers: The Headmasters laserdisc box set?  The book that came with it has some photos of some early toy prototypes.  I would like to get high resolution scans of these photos and their accompanying Japanese text, if possible.

Which prototypes? I have some old books of Japanese Transformers with great toys. I also found a promotional picture I bought from a newspaper that was selling old material.

The Headmasters LD box set had photos of the prototypes from the Takara Museum.  I know there are photos of protos for Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Gnaw.  There are possibly a few others, as well.  I've yet to find the photos in any other publications and the images I've found online are really tiny with the text generally cut off or unreadable.

So you're looking for prototype shots of any of the movie toys. I'll look.

It looks like I might also have the sticker album along with a full set of the stickers to add to the extras.

It's actually the 2010 LD box that has the prototype photos, it also has some of Octane, Metroplex, and Trypticon (although they of course don't appear in the movie).  They're nothing too special though.

Does the 2010 box also have the Unicron Prototype photos? Also, are the photos in the original Takara release or the Pioneer release. I have a friend who has the LD set (not sure which version though), so I might be able to get scans of the photos, after all.

I think it has at least one of Unicron prototypes, but I don't have it in front of me right now.  It's only the Takara LD boxes that have the photos, the Pioneer ones only have black and white booklets IIRC.

So, any suggestions on what artwork I should look at using for the cover?

YES!!!

“That’s impossible, even for a computer!”

I have a very high resolution scan of that poster image.  I was debating on that one since it's used on the Australian Blu-Ray release.

That's the absolute best image to use, hands down.

Ok, here are a few rough ideas I put together for possible cover art and disc label.  They're not great and I'm having a bit of trouble with the back cover.

Very nice. I prefer the 2nd dvd front cover, although the word "Transformers" shouldn't be broken in half. For the back cover, I'd put the decepticons after Unicron gave them their upgrades.

Does anyone have any leads on where I could get the original press kit for the movie?  If I could get ahold of one, I could scan it and include it as part of the extra features.

They released an LD box set in 2010?

Edit:

Never mind, I see it's called that due the Japan only 3rd season of G1.

I've made some updates to the cover designs.  I still need to pick a couple of screenshots and consolidate a list of all the special features.

Here's what I have so far:

Looking really nice! Extremely excited for this

I could use some feedback regarding some of the content I'm considering including on the Blu-ray.

I have a copy of the Transformers: The Movie Mokushiroku videotape coming.  I already have a digital transfer of the entire video and I was planning to include some of the segments on the Blu-ray.  The question is, should I just include the segments that actually are related to the movie or the entire video?  A lot of the video pertains to the later series like The Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory.

Also, I have the "Toy Version" of Scramble City, which is sort of a re-telling of the OVA using toys and some stock footage from the TV series, that I was considering including in with the commercials.  I don't have a translation of the dialog, though, or even a transcript I could use to create a translation.  I'm wondering if I should just include it as a long commercial with a brief explanation or if there is some other option.  Does a translation or Japanese transcript exist?

Should I include bios for the principle cast, crew, and musicians?  If so, what would be the best source?

Ok, I could use some feedback on something, if anyone is still watching this thread.  I've done a number of small fixes to remove some of the more obvious scratches and spots that showed up on the original 1080p transfer.  There is one scene I'm not sure if I should fix, though.

After the back of the shuttle is blown up, there is a pan that has two vertical lines running down it.  They looked like thin film scratches at first but upon closer inspection, they are an artifact from the animation process.  Should these be removed or left in place since they were animation flaws and not actual film flaws?

You can see an example of what I'm referring to here:
