Are there any HD broadcasts that don't come from the Lowry treated versions?

The DVNR was just bizarrely applied in some of the films as if it was done automatically and not scene by scene or frame by frame.

Even more heavily applied on things like the credits or things like optically composite shots.

Some of the films are certainly cleaner and sharper than they originally looked

But i don't think that was the Director's or Cinematographer's intent.

First DVNR scrubbed and then sharpened and re-color timed.  Its shit its not the films they made.  It may be pleasing to look at but not theatrically accurate.

Yep, that's the same HDTV that's been around for ages. Cropped =(

Every once in a while, Netflix streaming will have an uncropped version of it, but nobody's capturing from Netflix.

It is entirely possible to do so...  There were some captures of the latest season of "Arrested Development" floating around a while back.  (These episodes were exclusive to Netfilx.)  They were captured at 720p and the quality is outstanding.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how one would even go about capturing from Netflix, but somebody sure figured it out...  :-D

I'm sure they make capture cards that accept component video, but most people here either want the direct stream ripped straight from the Internet on a computer, or nothing at all.

But now that I've had a little more experience with Netflix in HD, I see that there are other obstacles to overcome that no one has mentioned: Netflix on 360 is pretty awful. Besides the fact that the UI is terrible and there is no way to change any of the options, the streaming quality is very erratic...I suppose you'd have to take multiple captures and splice them together, hoping that the picture (and sound) quality doesn't always drop in the same spots.

I don't know if it's the same way on PS3, but considering that it's a Sony product, I would be willing to bet that PS3 has the DRM where you have to use HDMI or it will only output in lower resolution.

Although if one doesn't mind spending the money, they do make HDCP strippers, like the HDFury.

Pretty sure the revised BD is the old SE master or utilizes a higher generation version of what made the SE.

Recalibrated my CRT with Video Essentials..so of course that means...more 007 transfers obviously!!

ruminations:

1. The Criterion Dr. No is quite similar to the MGM Connery version. Color is rather close with some fluctuation and a general darker feeling found in the print sourced Criterion. Their cropping is a bit tighter, but not always. It is rather a close call, with the MGM being the more technically robust and sharper of the two.

2. The Goldfinger CAV MGM boxset is exactly the same as the Connery CLV version, just in full CAV and perhaps a tiny bit cleaner. The audio is a bit less hissy overall and the titles are still in stereo.

3. Is it just me or does the color on the CAV Thunderball appear a bit muted against the previous copies? I just can't get away from that deep saturation on the 1989 disc.

4. Saturation seems perfect on YOLT, and with a bit of contrast reduction I think it would match a print.

5. What in the hell caused OHMSS to lose scenes on the SE DVD?

6. SE and BD. They bleached the life out of DAF. Twice. Damn mad professor in a minibus.

7. LALD looks great on the 1991 disc. But that had dropouts and mistakenly placed the mono isolated score on the right digital track. So they made a 1993 corrected copy...and it's a winner. A bit better than the '91 disc with brilliant color and detail that places it at arguably the peak of the transfers for reproduction of the 70's stock.

The 5.1 remix track is just plain AWFUL.

8. TMWTGG appears to have been shot to where everything has a sort of golden cast...intentional or is this my critic side getting to artistic with the best gem of 1974?

9. They did too much noise reduction on Spy. The trailer has more facial detail than the transfer.

My FYEO SE disc will not play at all in any player whatsoever, read in a PC, and it is completely spotless like a new disc. I can't even open the disc files in my computer. All of my other SE discs work fine, the only difference is that the underside of this disc is bluish looking where all the others are standard silver/clear or goldish.

Is this a sign of disc rot? I've never had a DVD do this in all players, and the disc itself is absolutely spotless with no signs of any defect.

I've not seen a disc turn blue before. Are you sure it's isn't some sort of pressed bootleg? When my THX Moonraker and Goldfinger discs went bad they took on a dirty brownish hue.

I actually just got FYEO off of Ebay recently but haven't had the chance to watch it yet. Disc color looks okay though.

Golden Gun and View to a Kill still elude me on LD.

No it's 100% official, just that the plastic has a bluish hue which I've seen on some discs occasionally.

I got the whole SE set at once and this is the only disc with issues. It won't play in anything.

Must be one of those rare bad discs that somehow escaped the factory. You ought to be able to pick up a used disc that works on Ebay for a few bucks.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I've had a go at recreating the 1968 UA logo at HD resolution. This was used at the opening of YOLT, though some seem to think it's also been used on some prints of OHMSS.

I'm making a video version with the correct timing and fades, so if that's of interest to anyone then shoot me a PM.

The Goldeneye SE disc that I have won't play on an XBox 360, it glitches up right away and freezes the console. Plays fine on other devices I've tried it on. I had to let my friend borrow the UE instead.

Haven't tried any of the other SE discs, that was the only one he wanted to borrow.

How do you split the recorded DTS stream?

Here's something I've not seen before, Bond movies on 8mm video.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/007-James-bond-Japanese-original-8mm-Video-8-TAPE-/231185527894?pt=US_Movie_Mixed_Lots_Other_Formats&hash=item35d3bb3456

There were quite a few movies released in the U.S. when Sony was trying to compete with VHS on all fronts, but never saw any of these in the states. Wonder if they are letterboxed?

Good thing I don't have a Video 8 deck, or I might be tempted. ;)

I have a Sony 8mm camcorder that could play these. A good tape has a notable uptick in PQ over a VHS copy, but the audio is not as good. Were they significantly cheaper, I would like to try these. I am guessing these are not letterboxed.

I thought all pre-recorded 8 tapes boasted PCM audio? The backs of those list Digital Stereo or Mono. Probably identical to the LD's in that respect.

Hello, i've browsed this forum for many years but this is my first post.

Been a big fan of the original 3 "Banned Bond" releases and listened to those commentaries a few times now- thank you FF for bringing them to DVD.

Wanted to ask had there been any further projects that have been released since? either conversions or perhaps some of the audio tracks from the LD's?

I also wondered if anyone had further information on a Goldeneye workprint that seems to have surfaced. I'm presuming its the one with some music temped in from La Femme Nikita and The Professional. I was hoping to link a couple of clips on youtube but they've been recently taken down. One was Alec seen shooting the laboratory worker in the facility and the other showed an extra shot of the barrels after they have fallen on the soldiers not seen in the released movie.

As an aside, there is a website here that you guys might be very interested in - an archive of Bond on home video- you may even be able to contribute where a few of the covers are missing!

Great website, will spend hours looking at it.

One thing, the LTK PAL UK Gunbarrel was reversible to the red standalone sleeve :)

Thanks for your kind comments about my past projects. No, I did not continue my OOP LD / DVD content preservation projects after the 3 "Banned Bond" releases. I may return to them in future.

Could you please tell me? On the "Banned Bond" version of "From Russia With Love" that you have, does it have a music and effects only track as an audio option?

I don't recall if I had transferred that over from the Connery Collection LD set. That music and effects only track was not included on the original "banned" Criterion LD. There is content on the first 1997 DVD release of FRWL that had the THX logo and a cardboard shell. So there is still content to preserve.

No, the Music and Effects track was not included as an option on your Banned Bond version. Would love to hear it though!

Also, did you ever complete that Thunderball LD capture you were working on?

Not on mine either. I did hear (maybe here) that this track existed and used the left channel? either way if it could be extracted it would be very useful in expanding the score further - Dr No & Goldfinger have shown this and there's plenty of unreleased John Barry gems to be heard on From Russia With Love.

I thought no one ever finished the LD capture of the full aperture version of Thunderball because they finally released it on blu ray with none of the cropping, i coulld be wrong i don't own it.
