I can't choose to be something I'm not. I could choose to be a bird and fly out of my bedroom window but the results would be messy (probably).

I could buy a jet pack and maybe I would get a fair distance but I wouldn't be a bird.

You could choose to have sex with member of the same gender, you might even like it but unless you were compelled to prefer it to sex with a lady of the opposite sex before you chose it you would just be a heterosexual having gay sex and there is a lot of that about too.

I have for as long as I can remember (2 or 3) been more drawn to bodies of the same gender before I even knew what sex was.

So how is that a choice?

The OP has and always will be hot like fire BTW.

I equate decision making with making a choice.  I did NOT say YOU chose to be gay.  In the end, it doesn't matter if I am gay or straight, in design and site I am human.  Since I am not gay I would have to chose to be because I'm straight ..... I would be making a decision.

And BTW, leave Warbler alone.  He explained himself plainly and you STILL accuse him of persecuting you just because he believes in God and his God says homosexuality is a sin.  He's already told you he is not your judge and jury and that he supports gay rights.  Besides, he's a Christian and I'm agnostic.  Our beliefs are as different as his and yours are.  Stop playing the victim here and talk reasonably.

I'm not playing the victim. I am a member of one set of humans victimised by various other sets of humans based on something I can't change intersecting with a prejudice I did not design.

In Warb's case he is a devotee of a God lifted from a text where the sanction for homosexuality is death by stoning. He isn't like that himself but plenty of other people who follow the same text are and have influence all around this spooky provincial hellworld in which I am currently confined.

There has been a long history of persecution and oppress of those that are Christian.   In the days of the Roman Empire, Christians were thrown to the lions.  In Muslim countries and places like China, Christians are still oppressed.   is that ok just because being a Christian is a choice?

Warb did you chose not to be gay the way I chose not to be a biblical literalist Christian?

I've really given some flavours of Christianity some consideration.

Particularly, The Society of Friends but they seem too nice for me to spoil their party.

I was raised in a form of the Christian tradition and the teachings of Jesus appeal to me.

The actions of the old testament God appall me but it's hard to find fault with Jesus.

If that was the Christian ethos alone it would be more than enough to keep the world a relatively trouble free place but you have the Just So stories and Game of Thrones bolted onto one end and an ergot induced anti-Nero tract on the other (with some pretty nasty thoughts of Paul etc scattered on top like candy sprinkles).

Certainly not but Christians oppressing homosexuals is worse than pagans oppressing Christians because they claim to know better. It's the difference between a cat toying with it's prey and a parent drowning a child's cat.

I've always kind of believed God evolved with the rest of the world.  Yes, the actions of god in the old testament are quite revolting to us.  So were the actions of many of the people on the earth at that time.  I've always kind of thought that as the earth became more civilized, well God followed suite and changed with the world.

Or perhaps the world changed because God's attitude changed.

Or if you don't believe in God perhaps the stories we made up about god changed because the world changed.

You believe some of the text by choice not because I make you so stop calling me out and calling effrontery for my mocking bits of scripture that promote activities which you wouldn't dream of doing.

You can skip over parts of it already when you want to make a point in anger so why not skip over other bits when you want take the sort of tolerant, liberal stance I highly suspect is in your nature?

The model of a creator being that appeals to me (I can't claim to believe in it but it sounds nice) is one that is created by the process of creation so eventually the universe gives rise to it's creator who at the end of the universe creates the beginning (a bit like Vishnu I suppose).

Sorry Bingo but I'm finished with this "ring around the rosy" style of posting you seem to relish.  The only view you seem to believe in, cherish, and give sympathy to is your own.  Much like Frink's style, turning every corner in to another corner, it is wasted breath because the only perceived winner is always you even if your wrong.

I was just trying to join a conversation and glean some insight, not start World War Gay.

Anyways, I appreciate that you are you and that it brings you joy.  That is as it should be for every person in the world, not just a privileged few.

I will when you stop using those bits of scripture against me.  Time and again in debates, you use my religion against me and you bring up those bits as if I believed homosexuals should be stoned.

You don't understand what it is to be Christian and never will.

I have had enough of this.  I am leaving the forum for now.  I don't know if I will be back.

I was going to say something about your comments, but instead made a light-hearted joke about a phrase Bingo said that made me laugh.  I even thought that you, a fellow Agnostic,  might appreciate it.

But I guess I shouldn't be surprised, given how humorless you are.

I would like to complain about the Apple drink that I purchased from the 99 Cent Only Store yesterday. %5 juice tastes horrible but I'm a cheap bastard, so maybe I should complain about myself.

I would like to complain about my cheapbastardness. Where is form I can fill out?

Jeez louise! If Bingowings gets under your skin so bad, just put him on permanent ignore and refuse to read through any posts which quote his comments. Leaving the forum just because you don't get along with a single poster is like amputating an arm to treat a cat scratch.

Frink, I am sorry.  I'm so used to everything being a joke to you that I did not recognize it as you trying to lighten the mood.  There has been so much run around in this damn conversation that I figured you were taunting.  Thank you for clarifying your position about the remark.

Light-heartedly speaking ..... I hope you're not that surprised by my comment considering, my apology is sincere.

This is what bugs me, "oppression." Puh-leeeez.

Oppression is what goes on in Muslim countries & Russia.

Just because I believe that employers can dictate your behavior, doesn't mean your oppressed. You CHOOSE to work for who you work for, the United States Government perhaps, you then CHOOSE to obey or disobey the rules laid out to you. You can CHOOSE to not work for that employer and live however you want to live.

I guess I'm oppressed as well. I'm an alcoholic, I didn't choose to be, I was born with it. And yet, my work WILL NOT allow me to drink on duty or discuss my political or religious beliefs in in public. So, I'm oppressed as well I reckon. They even make me wear a certain uniform with certain symbols on it, I can't have a cross pin on it, I'm oppressed! They force me into all kinds of training and such that I feel I don't need, I'm oppressed! You know, they even insist that I record my every action on video and then write, in detail, why I did what I did even though it's on video, I'm oppressed!

Hobby Lobby is being oppressed! Christians are widely being oppressed more and more.

My state will not let me marry more than one woman, dammit I'm oppressed!

I mean, I could be thrown in jail fr my beliefs or actions in other countries or stoned to death for having a sexual desire, but dammit I'm oppressed here!!

Why even haves rules or a civil society, let's just go full on anarchy so that nobody is oppressed, perhaps except for the oppression that roving hordes of thieves, rapists, and murderers inflict  seeing as how they always take over in anarchy.

This oppressive society is just so oppressive to the oppressed. Pfft.
