When I was a very small boy I remember we briefly had a large Grundig colour television.
I remember it went away and we were told that a valve had broken and it was too expensive to fix so we went back to a black and white television.
I also remembered my father stopped being a bricklayer and spent a lot of time away looking for work.
Around Christmas I found out the truth behind that story.
My father had a black and white license when we had the colour television, he didn't pay the fine and because of this he (a father of two small children) spent six months in prison.
It was something he never talked about and something that restricted his ability to get other work. As much as I want the BBC to survive the current run of attacks from the current government I must confess to being pleased this looks like being stopped finally.
