kk650,
How about a 2-Disc BD50 version for The Fellowship of the Ring Extended instead? I wouldn't mind seeing some Japanese, Russian, German, etc. dubs for some fan preservations.
Seems like massive overkill to me, beyond 25gb releases the increase in image quality is very minimal in my experience, the law of diminishing returns very much applies here. The demand for such a large release would also be very low at its current level of popularity and in 2-3 months I'd imagine all the links would be down. I don't rule out such a release in future of course but right now the release is not popular enough to warrant it.
There is of course the other great danger that comes with ps3/blu-ray player compatible releases, I get the feeling that with this particular regrade, due to the very obvious unsatisfactory nature of the official blu-ray, lots of copies of my bd-50 release could start appearing on e-bay with very greedy unscrupulous individuals seeking to make money off the back of all the hours and hard work I put into creating this release (which was many many hours believe me, I spent months trying to figure out how to approach regrading it, by far the release that has taken me the most time to regrade). I shared this release for free so all those that already own the official blu-ray and were unhappy with the blanket green tint over all the transfer and the overall underexposure of the blu-ray had access to a corrected version, not so some greedy individuals on ebay could profit off my work. These ebay sales would also very likely draw the studio's attention onto me due to what they would perceive as lost revenue caused by my release.
Copies of free releases appearing on ebay has happened to Team Blu releases and I can imagine that it would be a lot worse in this case due to the high profile of the film and how clearly messed up the official blu-ray is so such a blu-ray release is off the table for the forseeable future.
