Star Wars on Super8 (Released) — Page 8

All files have been copied. I plan on running md5deep on my copies tomorrow evening so that I can compare.

The md5deep run completed and the file I dumped its output to is bit-for-bit identical (after sorting) with the file I generated from my previous run of md5deep on poita's HDD.

I can now safely say that my copy of the Super8 files is exactly what's on poita's HDD.

Awesome, now to see some screen shots!

I've sent the original HDD along to ww12345.

I'm going to start working on the Usenet upload, but it'll take a while to get done since I have a lot going on at the moment and it'll likely need to be uploaded in ~50GB chunks.

ouch... that's a lot of data. is it 1080p uncompressed?

Yes, that is an insanely huge download. Most wont be able to manage it accept for those who have the fastest speeds. Wouldn't it be better to compress the uncompressed file to a BD-50 size file so that sharing it would be much, much easier to manage.

Can somebody repost one of the videos previously posted in this thread that shows how this super 8 transfer looks?

I've tried downloading all the videos that have already been posted here but they are all down. I'd love to see how this looks.

It is losslessly compressed, a little higher than 1080P from memory.

As is hasn't been colour corrected yet, and is high bit depth, linear colour-space sharing heavily recompressed versions would be a bit pointless, as you wouldn't be able to properly correct from a lossy, 8bit version, and there isn't a lot of point having the files to work on, if you throw away all that detail before you begin.

But sharing it for what purpose? If it is just to get a sticky-beak, or see if any frames are missing etc. then perhaps a divx 720P version or something would be more worthwhile.

A BD-50 of an uncorrected scan doesn't serve any purpose, it would still be a big download, but basically useless as a starting point for restoration/preservation.

Is someone already working on color correcting this, or is it just being thrown out there and whoever wants to can do what they want?

I like the idea of making the uncompressed frames available. But I also like Poita's idea of perhaps cranking out a quick and dirty one-light color corrected, 720p MKV or whatever. It would be great for those who are just curious about how the thing looks. See if there are extra frames, what title sequence it has at the end, if it has the yellow tears at the beginning...

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

I would LOVE to see a 720p MKV up on myspleen. <hint>

My #1 priority at this point in time is to make sure that my HDD isn't the only copy of this thing and the best (cheapest, too!) way to do this is via uploading it to Usenet.

x264 encoding is CPU-intensive and I'd have to devote 100% of my computing resources for too long in order to crank out a small-enough-to-download 720p stream. I don't have a render farm at hand. Plus, ResampleHQ (the only gamma-aware downscaler I have access to at the moment) isn't as fast as I'd like it to be, so that would most likely slow down things considerably.

I'm willing to pay the S&H fees, both ways, if someone would like to donate (temporarily or otherwise) a powerful-enough rig to crank this out in a reasonable amount of time. PM me if you're interested.

I will be snatching this so I will report any problems with downloading if I find any.  I really hope there aren't any.  It sucks to upload 60gb worth of stuff and then have somebody tell you it's all screwed up lol.  Thanks for the JBINUP recommendation btw.  It's way, way more reliable than anything else I've seen.

Luke threw twice…maybe.

This was a great clip but the link has expired. Poita, can you re-upload and share it again?

And Anctufaalb, can we see a screengrab or three?

Any chance it'll be ready by May 4th? I'm planning a marathon, but my friend didn't like Puggo Grande :(

It is quite literally the only copy now, I had to delete mine to make room for 35mm projects.

I'm not home at the moment, but people asked for a sample from the 4K scanner a while back, and I have a frame with me on the laptop.

This is at half the resolution of the actual scan, I dropped the resolution to get the aspect ratio closer to what you would be used to seeing.

The image is overly cropped as well due to using the wrong gate, but it gives you some idea.
