It's an interpretation based on the unbroken lineage listed in the Bible and the foolishness of believing it purely literally seems to be something we can all agree on.
But there are people foolish enough to believe it that way ergo my description of the similarly foolish of the extreme end of the conspiracy crowd as deploying a 'cultish religiosity'.
Which isn't even a swipe at the cultish. It's a like with like comparison.
Believing stuff that goes against the established paradigm and defending it against reason or evidence is the same thing be it a cult of God or a cult of Liz Windsor the blood sucking lizard Queen from Draco.
