The bottom line is the script sucked. If that worked few people would have cared if some of the FX looked a bit weird.

Exactly. CGI is pretty much the last thing that is potential wrong with PT.

This sucks no matter what movie it is in.

I thought it worked okay in this...

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

I guess Naboo is a light-gravity world. I don't know how the giant, bloated tick-shaped gerbils could move around otherwise.

They look like balloon animals!

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

It's not the CGI that makes this shot bad. Like DuracellEnergizer and FrankT in the previous two posts, my main complaint is with the laughable design of the animal rather than with the "not too realistically looking" CGI realisation. The shot would look no less ridiculous if they realised that animal design with real material.

Apparently you've never seen it in motion.

Do you realise how much would a robot version of this animal cost? And still it wouldn't look too natural. And for what? To appear in this stupid and unimportant scene.

The problem can be traced back to the script. This scene should never have been written with this dumb animal surfing stuff in the first place. CGI is a very powerful tool that has the capacity to realise even the most stupid and ridiculous ideas that otherwise wouldn't be possible to realise. No need to blame CGI now. Blame the stupid ideas.

Calling Hayden a dumb animal is harsh. I know some mute non-humans who would take great offense.

Is it just me or does reusing old concepts tend to harm the Saga? In ROTJ, reusing old concepts gave us Ewoks and the Death Star II while the new content (the Throne Room scenes) proved to be among the greatest parts of the Saga. In TPM, reusing old concepts gave us midichlorians.

Why don't I care that much about Star Wars anymore? Haven't since 2006 and didn't even get glad about Episode VII and the New Trilogy. But I still find myself playing Knights of the Old Republic I & II.
I'd even rather sell all my remaining Star Wars merchandise to buy something I'm more interested in. No, I didn't even buy Star Wars on Blu-ray either.

I don't know anyone in real life who bought Star Wars on Blu Ray.

I didn't know there was a Blu Ray until a couple months ago.

Everyone who downloaded Harmy's latest or who downloads the upcoming ESB:R should own it.  I got someone to give it to me as a gift. ;-)

The 2004 DVDs aren't good enough? Is that because he's using the Blu Ray? I thought you just had to have a copy of the movie, period.

 Agreed.

I got my copy 2nd hand and if you can get the Blu-Rays at a discount they are worth it for some of the extras. The bonus disc has a number of great documentaries and featurettes about the OT and getting "all" the deleted scenes from the OT was worth the purchase alone for me. However, the PT extras are sh*te, they really are the dregs of what was left over from the stuffed DVD releases (Including scenes so unfinished you'd be ashamed to call them 'animatics').

Am I the only one who got the impression from the OOT that Anakin was NOT famous? Luke doesn't know that he was a Jedi and nobody even suspects that he's Vader.

Author
Time

Heck, Luke doesn't know about the Force in ANH.

I never thought pre-Vader Anakin was ever famous before the PT rolled around. I figured he was just an average Jedi who fought in the Clone Wars but never did anything to really distinguish himself/place himself under the spotlight.

He made a good impression on Red Leader though. ;)

Where were you in '77?

Yeah I'm currently re-reading the original Marvel adaptation of Star Wars. And had forgotten how clueless Luke was, even about the Force. Having never heard about the Force, wouldn't that seem to suggest he hadn't even heard of Jedi before?

Not necessarily. After all, lots of people in the real world know about plenty of religions without having any real/accurate knowledge of what those religions actually teach.
