The quality of new products was dying, not the popularity of old ones.

Depends in what sense. Star Wars has been more or less alive for almost 40 years. And it is not just about older fans keeping it up. OT really is something great and it has the ability to easily generate new fans (with no advertisement). There are numerous of younger people who hadn't even been born when the trilogy was released (myself included) and later became fans. And I am not talking about the prequels here (I dislike them), I am talking about OT.
I agree that Disney's acquisition makes a huge "advertisement" for Star Wars in general and more rapidly exposes it to the new generations (as the prequels did in that sense).
But as I said, either way, OT would not die off easily. It is still hard to miss it. If one just goes to IMDb, it is practically pushed into one's face (since all 3 are in top 100 all-time list).

I hate to preach about this but "quality" when it comes to film is completely subjective. You and me will say OT has better quality than the prequels, while some prequels fan boys will say the opposite. Who is wrong? No one.
Well you said "Star Wars was either dead" which could not be true exactly because of the popularity of old ones.

New episodes confirmed to premiere in Early 2014!
New episodes of the Clone Wars in early 2014, premiere of Rebels in the fall of that year.
You'd think they would be allowed to tell us exactly where the bloody thing is going to be shown by now. Sheesh!
Where were you in '77?

At the risk of sounding like I'm arguing, I will respond. Quality is subjective, of course, but I think most would agree that the PT was less than the OT. Besides, what I said originally was not even referring to the movies. What I meant was, at the time, it looked like there'd never be any more Star Wars movies and that all we'd be left with is new books and comics that try to fit into the increasingly absurd EU.
Now we have new movies (along with, what I assume, will be a somewhat rebooted EU) and a new show with the possibility of more shows. The only thing that looked like a problem was that TCW was ended before it was ready. That will no longer be the case.
Also, I would never say SW was or is dead, but if you look around on this forum, many people did.
It's not dead, it's pining for the fjords.

Subjectively I say the statement "the PT is as good or better than the OT" is wrong and anyone who believes it is wrong.
Give DominicCobb a break all he was saying was that Star Wars looks more promising now than what it did before Lucas retired.
Lucasfilm is looking up

Just read this 5 page interview on IGN with Dave Filoni, really good stuff about the Clone Wars and Rebels TV series.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/10/14/dave-filoni-looks-back-on-star-wars-the-clone-wars-and-ahead-towards-star-wars-rebels
That was a great interview. Based on that interview plus one Kathleen did for Celebration Europe, I think it's pretty safe to say we'll be seeing multiple animated series in the future.
Hopefully one of them will be set Post-ROTJ.

I think imperialscum sometimes just looks for opportunities to be contrary. If I said the sky was blue, I think he'd criticize me for not calling it azure ;) He's kind of like twooffour, though not as aggressive and not nearly as wordy.
Lucas is a master "idea man" (stretch a superhero logo across his chest). He wrote the treatments for the sequel trilogy, and I'm happy about that. It'd be a different story if he were writing full scripts and directing.
He believed for years a ST lacked potential for story, even until pretty recently it seems. It'll be interesting to see what he pulled out of his sleeve.

This just makes me more mad that they cancelled this. Stupid Disney.
Rebels better be awesome!

Wow that sounds like the missing Liam Neeson audio a faneditor would need to complete the deleted Yoda's meditation scene from ROTS and actually make the end of that film make some sense! ;-)
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

I need to catch up on my CW watching...I've only made it to the beginning of season 2. :(
The first two seasons are pretty rough. But it really picks up once the third starts.
Has anybody seen the final 3 episodes of "The Lost Missions"/Season 6? People say they feel like the original trilogy.
I'm only just now catching up on the series thanks to the netflix deal. I saw almost all of season 1 when it aired, so I had a slight head start. I'm maybe six episodes into season 2. I'm digging the action and cinematography. It's a nice bonus to be able to watch the show in its full scope ratio, which the broadcasts did not offer.
I've seen The Clone Wars movie along with eleven of the first twelve episodes from the series (long story short, I couldn't find a decent copy of a certain episode to watch online), and so far I'm finding it a decent show to watch.
I still have obvious issues with it -- PT-style Jedi, limited lightsaber colours, Dooku's lack of anything remotely resembling characterization, etc. -- but so far the only things I find really bad about it are the stupid battle droids and Jar Jar.
I think I'll finish season 6 by tonight, and then I'll post my thoughts. Just starting episode 9 right now, and this season has some of the best moments yet.
And for certain, the animation has improved even more of season 5 clearly.

There is an episode with clones defending a remote outpost that features a battle droid variant that is silent and deadly. If only the one's in the prequels were that formidable.

^I've seen that one; it's definately one of the best episodes I've watched thus far.
The last episodes of Clone Wars Season 6 (eps 10-13) are great
pretty much a yoda spinoff movie
