Help: looking for... TESB Definitive DVDR fix

Does anyone know where I can get the fix for this? My DVDR has a bit missing when Liea is welding on the Falcon (audio jumps etc), and I know I saw a site that had a fix available but I can’t remember where…

Do you mean the 4-second gap in the TR47 edition? If so, here ya go: http://users.tpg.com.au/adsl5hum/index.htm

Note that you need to either download it or rip your DVD first and burn a new copy, so you have to have a DVD burner.

Thanks, but I'm talking about the anamorphic 1993 Definitive rips. There's a bit missing just after Han finishes telling Chewie to replace the negative power coupling (Leia welding). I first noticed it because of the jump in the soundtrack. I've compared it to my DVD5/DVD9 versions of the SEs and the official 2004 release--it's definitely missing.

It's missing because the Definitive LD set that Dr Gonzo used for that set as a source was one of the few LD sets of that release that is missing those few seconds of footage.

Your only fix would be to re-encode the footage back into it if you could obtain it from somehwere, which IMO isn't worth the effort, as I decided to get the TR47 set instead.

Ah right, cheers. I didn't know the footage was missing from the original source. If there's no easy fix then I'll live with it.

The MeBeJedi ANH prototype has it in it's FULL glory!

Wait a bit longer and this set will be out!!

I used the fix shown here...

http://users.tpg.com.au/adsl5hum/index.htm

...to take out the 4 seconds of blank space in TR47's The Empire Strikes Back. TMPG DVD Author can only edit on certain key frames. This means I had to lose about 10 frames of the welding scene (around a third of a second). Other than that... flawless! I can much better accept losing 10 frames than seeing a 4 second gap. I'm happy with it.

Thanks for then tip!!!

Are there any better tips? If you dont want to lose those 10 frames?
Do, or do not. There is no try.

It was a judgment call for me. The INv8r_ZIM method reduced the gap to 1 frame of black, but I wanted NO gap. Since no music or dialog would be lost, I opted to lose the 10 frames of Leia welding. Most people watching would notice the one frame of black, but I don't think anyone would really notice 10 missing frames of Leia welding.

Heh....I've got a "method" Huhuhuhuhu...That's cool, Beavis...
Yeah, I got it down to 1 frame, it's still there, BUT is only as bad as a layer change now, which I can live with. I extracted the whole thing as an MPEG2, then edited it in TMPEGDVD. As it has been noted, unfortunetly you WILL NOT be able to get any closer than 1 frame unless you have access to the original, uncompressed footage, OR go back and recapture the whole movie from LD again. You can cut out exactly on the shot change, but cutting back in gives you the last frame of the gap. Whoever did the encoding (TR47 admits it's not his work, he's just selling them), ended up with that last black frame being an I or P or B frame (I can never remember which is which ), so for the file to work as an MPEG2, it HAS to remain. On the whole, I'd definetly say it was worth the little time it took to fix.

Is it an anamorphic fix? Where can I get it?

The fix is for the gap in TR47 version. In the Anamorphic (Dr. Gonzo) version, the welding footage is missing all together and would require a more elaborate method.

will there be a copy of the fix being re-uploaded anytime soon? ?

My question is, why can't it be fixed on the master?

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
<span class=“Bold”>JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
<span class=“Bold”>Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.</span>

MeBeJedi, as far as I know, it COULD be fixed on the master. The problem is that TR47 doesn't HAVE the original capture; he got it from someone else in the encoded format and just sells the copies. When you encode to MPEG2, you need to create reference frames every so often in the video stream. These are the I,B, and P frames. You cannot LEAVE the video stream on one of these, because MPEG really defines motion as the change between these frames. So, to perfectly fix this, you would need to edit the original raw capture, THEN encode to MPEG2.

Or just get the newest version with a title page and the ESB fix..........
