399 B.C.: Socrates is condemned to death.

A.D. 1763: Austria, Prussia, and Saxony sign the Treaty of Hubertusburg, ending both the French and Indian War and the Seven Years' War.

A.D. 1804: New Jersey becomes the last northern state to abolish slavery.

February 16:

A.D. 600: Pope Gregory the Great declares that "God Bless You" is the proper response to a sneeze.
