Not Always Getting Email Notifications

Author
Time

This isn't usually a problem, but sometimes I don't get notifications for threads I'm subscribed to. The only such thread I know for sure is this one:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/How-about-a-game-of-Japanese-Chess-ie-Shogi-darth-ender-vs-RicOlie-2-now-playing-Kyoto-Shogi-a-small-but-challenging-unpredictable-variant/topic/16176/page/24/

Sometimes I get notifications, sometimes I don't. I haven't noticed any definite patterns, but it seems to happen when I am already in the Off Topic forum, so it isn't a real problem. I just thought I should mention it though, in case it is some kind of glitch with that thread.

What are your notification settings under Preferences?

You can set it so that you get an e-mail for every new post in a subscribed thread (not recommended), or receive a single e-mail for the first new post and not be notified again until you view the topic, which I believe is the default.

I have it set to receive an email for every new post in a subscribed thread and I also have it set so that I am automatically subscribed to every thread I post in.

If you can establish a pattern, let me know. Otherwise, I haven't received any similar complaints.

OK. I've only noticed it a couple times, and if I remember correctly, it happened when the post was made at the same time I clicked onto the Off Topic forum. If that's the case, it obviously won't be much of a problem, because I will be able to see that there was a new post. I just thought I should mention it though, just in case I could find out what caused it. If it happens again, I'll make sure to check to see whether the pattern continues or if I'm remembering things incorrectly.

It happened again (with Warbler's broken computer thread (EDIT: and also with his chess thread) in Off Topic), but it didn't follow the pattern I thought I had noticed. I'll continue to watch for it.

Well what do you expect from a broken thread?

*groan*

That was pretty good actually. :)

Just noting that it happened again with darth_ender's Mormon Q&A thread. So far it has happened only with Warbler and darth_ender's threads and as far as I have noticed, only with threads in Off Topic (but I spend 90% of my time at OT.com in the Off Topic section, so that doesn't mean much).

EDIT: It also just happened twice for the following thread:

It happened again with Warbler's chess thread.

I'm noting every time it happens here so it's easier to figure out any patterns. And there may be something in common between the threads that only Jay can figure out.

Threads started by people who believe in God. ;-)

And more specifically, are all practicing Christians... That's it! The website is discriminatory against people who are open about their Christian Faith. So the solution to my problem is to convert the website! ;)

It happened again, this time with my Nimmar thread. The pattern of practicing Christians continues... ;)

The pattern has been broken. I received no notification for the latest post in the General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread which was made by an agnostic (Frink).

It happened once again for the thread mentioned in my first post.

It happened again. I failed to receive a notification for darth_ender's move in the Shogi thread.

This has happened many times since, and in the past day or so, I've been receiving some email notifications several hours after the actual post.

The problem is still continuing, without any pattern that I can see. There are even more posts than ever for which I don't receive notifications. And yes, I've checked my spam folder multiple times.

Oddly, I stopped receiving email notifications at all at some point during the evening. If I'm still not receiving any tomorrow, I'll report back.

It appears that I began receiving them again at about 7:00 EST (I believe it was around 9:00 the night before that they stopped).
