You were told that profiting off of something like this was against site policy AND copyright laws.....and you responded by saying that you were going to do it anyways. You only changed your tune and "apologized" when everybody started telling you what a douche you were for endangering the project by insisting on profiting off of this edit. And I think it's more than clear that apologizing for someone else "getting their balls in a twist" is not really an apology at all.
