You want to spit on the rules this site operates under? Be my guest. But it's a one way ticket to banishment. You're not the first person who thinks the rules don't apply to them.

Just because Amazon and Ebay don't police themselves very well is not a excuse to do it around here.

Do NOT derail this thread any further.

If I distribute copies of this edit through Blu-ray/DVD discs in cases, could I sell them for the cost of the disc(s), Blu-ray case, and cost of shipping? Would it also be Ok for me to throw in a few additional bucks for the cost of labor?

 No, and hell no.

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Fan-edit-preservation-forum-rules-and-FAQ/forum/18/topic/5950/

Read it all.

Why should I be punished financially for distributing something that Lucasfilm should have done a long time ago for the cost of the DVDs and Blu-rays? We paid full price for half-ass releases of the movies.

I may just have to go against your word on distribution of these. There are many people who I know that would like this edit, but do not have Blu-ray burners, blank Blu-ray cases & discs, and do not know/are not interested in purchasing them and downloading and burning these edits themselves.

What are the penalties if caught distributing these for the cost of producing them on physical media, shipping, plus a few additional dollars for labor? I see people selling fan edits on amazon and ebay all the time. I have emailed some of them and some responded claiming it is legitimate if you just sell them for the cost of the physical media, shipping, and a few additional dollars for labor of making them. I found out that it may still be illegal and I emailed them back telling them that, and only one responded saying "they will take it under advisement."

One of them didn't outright say this, but gave me the impression that now that Star Wars is under ownership of Disney, it is legal to do so now. That is bullshit, correct?

You want to make a few additional dollars for the labour of making them. Go fuck yourself asshole. I do this for fucking free, not to have some fucking wanker like yourself making a profit out of all the work i, and others, have put into all of this. You want to share it, fine. But don't have the fucking nerve to try and make any money from them. Those scum bags selling other peoples fan edits/ preservations on ebay etc need shooting. They are dicks of the highest order. Crap like that jeopardizes everything we do. Studios start to see more and more people making money of stuff like this and they'll just come after the people that are making the fan edits. So fucking think before you want to make some money, when we are doing it all for free.

I know my words and language are harsh, and i apologise to everyone else. But people like this make me sick. It goes against everything i do these edits for. But when i see people wanting to make profit of work people are doing for free, then it gets my blood boiling. People like this and that fucking wanker OCPmovie, or to give him his proper name, garrett gilchrist, think it is acceptable to sell other peoples edits, then they can go fuck themselves. I don't want to do all of this work and then have the studios come after me and shut me down, wasting years of my life working on this edit, because of some dick that decides its ok to make money off it.

Ady is right though. What the hell was  The Terminator thinking when he posted those comments?

We all try our best to protect these sort of projects from accusations of piracy and so far they are tolerated.

How stupid can you be to suggest such a thing?

Just don't distribute it then. No one is forcing you to. Clearly you have no real passion for this project if your instinct is to only distribute it if you can make a quick buck.

Plenty of people have distributed discs through PIF chains without asking for anything. Plenty have helped with the workload for free, and others have outright given their money to the project to get this thing finished.

More than anything, Ady himself is doing this just for the love of it and it's costing him more than it is anyone else. Perhaps the question you should be asking is, why should Ady, or any of the people helping, be out of pocket? I'm going to give you a hint, seeing as your limited intellect seems to restrict you from grasping this - it's not for people like you to profit from it.

Then Hasta la vista, baby. You've been referred to the rules and outright told in posts, yet you still think it's ok to not only still do it, but openly announce that you're still doing it. If it wasn't for your clear stupidity in previous posts, I'd think you were a troll.

It's piracy, so you figure it out. We're already operating in a grey area by distributing it for free. Add money into the equation and it's definitely illegal. Maybe you aren't cut out for this line of work. You seem to have missed the subtleties of how to properly act like a Star Wars bootleg baron. If only those sellers you quoted weren't so savvy -something you appear to have missed as you appear to be taking all their bullshit excuses at face value.

I wish there were more criminals like you. They'd practically arrest themselves.

The second one is happening (being an extension of the window that is already in the SE). The first I doubt will happen.

Very nicely put Ady, and to me you were not harsh enough, I fully 100% agree with you on this, hell I have already seen a Team Blu release on ebay for $40! damn I would love to pile drive this shit into the pavement lol, we do all the work fixing the video, making those custom tracks, sharing our artworks, full professional BD authoring, and then some asshat makes money off it, truly frustrating to say the least.

Which release? You should report the eBay seller.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Look "Honest" up in the dictionary. I'm reasonably sure Piracy isn't included in the entry.

Doesn't say you won't still sell the edits, only that you won't put a fee on top.

 Clearly.

(btw I didn't hear the apology to Adywan?)

To be honest, I was never really interested in selling anyways. I knew it was illegal from the start. What threw me off was when I saw people selling edits/Star Wars Holiday Special online which made me think maybe it is legal now that Star Wars is owned by Disney. I emailed these people to ask if it is really legal and some told me it is, giving me the impression it is legal to sell for the cost of physical media, shipping and labor to make the discs, case jacket, DVD menus etc. I was just posting this to see if it was in anyway true. Now I know. Adywan, I apologize for getting your balls twist in a knot. I promise I will not sell anything related to fan edits, copies, The Star Wars Holiday Special etc. I guess there is no way for me to prove that but I can give you my word. What else should I say?

Eh, no.

Also, I was joking. You see, it's a Star Wars reference. But your apology was still a piece of junk.

You were told that profiting off of something like this was against site policy AND copyright laws.....and you responded by saying that you were going to do it anyways. You only changed your tune and "apologized" when everybody started telling you what a douche you were for endangering the project by insisting on profiting off of this edit. And I think it's more than clear that apologizing for someone else "getting their balls in a twist" is not really an apology at all.

It certainly hasn't got it where it counts.
