A laserdisc to DVD forum?

I've spent several hours with Rikter, discussing various ideas about LD conversions, and an idea came up. Lately, a lot of people have been coming to these boards either asking about laserdisc conversions or submitting them. Maybe a seperate forum could be created, and each of the versions could be given a thread for discussions, comparisons and technical details about current and future projects.

Believe me, Rikter, Magnoliafan and I already have a tremendous amount of ideas that we'd like to bring to fruition. it would be nice to have a central repository of information about all this material that people could easily locate.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Funny, I've been working on a website to do this very same thing. A preservation specific site, for tech info, DVD info and even a repository of covers, and I was trying to get Rik in on it, but I can never catch him online these days. I was gonna ask if you wanted in on it as well, since you're working on that new set.

The bonus of having it be its own page is the fact that we can break things down into sections, like having a cover gallery, and we don't have to worry about the off-topic BS that commonly plagues message boards.

I was even planning a page for DIYers, where everybody who has done a set gives their equipment set-ups and how-tos. Since none of us are in this for profit (right?!? ) and it could help any future transfers get better and better.

Tell me what you think.
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

Actually, I'll tell you what I suggested to Rikter.

It would be nice to have:

* Individual threads for each project: The first post would be regularly updated. I would have one, Zion would have one, Magnoliafan, etc. It would be like a FAQ, so people could check the first post to see how the DVD they wanted was going. Questions that aren't answered by the FAQ would be fine, but requests for a copy (especially before the set was even done) would not be appreciated. Suggestions would go to the feedback thread.

* Materials request thread: This would be a thread where people like myself and Zion could ask people for certain materials that we needed for these projects. For example - scanned colored copies of comic book renditions of Star Wars for the radio play project. Those people who have such stuff would be put on a list for a free set, as well as having their name/username in the credits.

* Feedback thread: This would be where everyone else could chime in ("good job", "what about this", blah, blah, blah), so that they don't clutter up the other threads.

As a newbie (to editing anyway) I'd love to hear what you all have to say about setups, software recommendations, techniques, etc. I've been wanting to edit Ep 1 since it debuted on DVD but I haven't had the patience to figure it out totally for myself, and the tools I've worked with would do a pretty hackey job of it anyway. This forum would be VERY beneficial, not only for the experts to talk amongst themselves, but for fledgelings to learn as well.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

I think this idea has merit, so I've created a dedicated "preservation" forum here.
