Out of curiosity, what software are you using that allows you to make handicaps like that?

You can easily do it with Zillions. Simply right click on a square, and you can change or remove the piece. I'm not sure if Warbler is using a real board or what software he may be using.

Cool, thanks. I think I might follow along. It's not often that I watch a game from the outside, but it might be a helpful way to pick up new tactics/strategies.

I'm glad you'll follow along. As much as I love shogi, I can't say I love it more than chess. Nor can I say I love it less than chess. I just love them both so much for such different reasons. I'm glad that you might be find a renewed enthusiasm for good ol' chess.

so much for my one pawn advantage : (

Well, once again, your position is superior, regardless of material advantage. Play to your strengths. Note that I have an isolated pawn (a pawn with no supporting pawns). Note that my king is very vulnerable from both sides along the white diagonal. Note that my pieces are not well developed--the reason why bringing out your queen too early is usually unwise, as you spend too much time making her retreat that you don't have time to develop other pieces. And on that note, my queen will retreat. Q-g6
