Halloween [spoRv] *BD-25 RELEASED* — Page 7

I dropped the center channel, as it lacks a lot of effects, and when mixed with the M&E track, it didn't work, as the M&E has different sync... I mean, if the M&E music is in sync with the BD music, effects are not, and vice versa...

So, I used the other track you sent me - with quite good result, I think...

This looks and sounds fantastic!

Thank you very much to all!

Hope next projects will be on this level, if not better...

I need some feedback in particular for the main mono soundtrack from the Criterion laserdisc: is it in sync? It's important to know it for me, as if it's (almost) perfectly in sync, I will use the same method for the future projects.

It's perfect, at least to these old eyes. The more vibrant colors combined with the increased detail and film grain of the new Blu-ray is astonishing. Bring on Alien! lol

Am I missing something?  How do I download this?  :(

Just got it downloaded last night. Again great job, Andrea

Excellent work, just excellent work. Your process gives extremely great results when you're working with high-quality HD masters (except in color timing). Your Matrix release's downfalls all stemmed from the fact that the HD version you were working with was contrast-boosted and tinted so extremely. Though I haven't seen the THX DVD in awhile, this release really seems to be the THX color except with the 4K downscaled resolution of the 35th Anniversary BD. Quality-wise, Anchor Bay did a really good job, and it's fantastic that you have something so nice to work with for a more cult movie.

The audio is really nice. I especially love the lossless effects/music track. This really seems like a great supplement to Anchor Bay's 35th Anniversary release.

Are you still going to work on a release based on the Criterion color timing eventually? This will probably always remain my go-to disc just for the fact that your script has restored the aesthetically-pleasing THX color timing more than any general color correction setting could. However, it would be interesting to have a supplement that had the theatrical color timing. I'm not 100% on the fact that the 35th Anniversary might have been accurate to theaters; the fact that it's inconsistent with the Criterion LD makes me think it's just the negative estimated to look like a print color-wise, from memory, by Dean Cundey.

Thank you very much; you know, it's very rewarding to work so much to a project, and find someone that is really happy with that work, like you, and all the others who posted here and on MyS.

You are right, Matrix was really tough to do - in comparison, Halloween was like a walk in a park during a sunny day, Vs a runaway from a bear in a snow storm... (^^,)

It will be quite easy, at this point, to use the Criterion laserdisc as color reference to make another version; don't know if there are someone else who could be interested in it... anyway, it will not be done so soon, as many other projects are on my todo list.

I said this before, but to me, it looks like the Criterion has brightened the darker scenes to look "better" on analogue TVs. I know Criterion usually has a sort of track record, but in this case, I'm not sure how relevant their transfer is today.

I agree that the Criterion edition has darker scenes brightened - probably because it was released in the "cathod ray tube TV era"; but the brightning is not excessive - and, at the contrary, the brighter scenes are darkened...

And, most important, color grading is different from both 35th BD and THX DVD - even if sometimes it is similar to one or another, often is different from both, so... is the Criterion LD color grading "truer" than 35th BD or THX DVD? Don't know... Should it be used as color reference for a color regrading? I think so... it could be considered a third point of view!

I'm thrilled that this has been released. I bought the 35th anniversary disc the day it was released, and though I thought the image was superior to the previous blu-ray in terms of detail, the color left me very disappointed. There's just no way I believe that it originally looked like that when it was released originally in theatres. I can't wait to check this out now. Thanks a ton for working so hard on this!

Looks great but video sticks/glitches from from after the main titles until around 8 minutes in. Anyone else having this problem?

Mine is 100% perfect.  There was one guy who had a glitch on The Thing but that was user end problems.  The original files for Andrea's projects are without issue.

Alright, I'll look into it. was playing it on Mac Blu Ray Player and I had trouble with it on VLC as well. I'll try to burn it and see what happens.

As some users have problems with the burned BD of EFNY, I ask to every user here that burned Halloween on a BD disc and watched it to a standalone player to help me to know if this project (Halloween) works well.

So, please post your OS, your BD software, the BD player(s) used (or PS3), and if the disc worked flawlessy or not, and if not, which are the issues.

Many thanks to all, your collaboration is important for my future projects!

I had no issues but I played the files from my external media player. I didn't burn it to disc.

For BD playback issues, I opened a dedicated thread, to gather all comments and try to find out a solution; please post your BD feedback there, thanks!

Who knows if this set will have the unaltered Mono mix this time, but either way, official release of the Halloween 6 Producer's Cut!!!

It does claim the original mono track is being added. But I guess the only way to know for sure is to find out when it gets released. Sounds like an amazing set, but honestly I love the [spoRv] version of Halloween - the coloring is more appealing to me than the newest remaster with the lack of color. The original blu-ray was too saturated. This new set seems to say it will contain both, which is pretty interesting actually.

They'll probably just port over the lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 track they've been using as the original mono track for years now. What they should do, is that they should go back to the original magnetic mono track, restore and remaster it in 24 bit PCM, and put that on the Blu-ray, either as a LPCM track (preferable) or a lossless PCM one. But there's probably a better chance of hell freezing over than that happening. Fortunately, thanks to the OP, that's much less of a problem. :)

Has anyone considered creating a blu-ray that has all of the extras from all of the HALLOWEEN dvds and blus?
Also SpoRv: have you considered creating a TERMINATOR blu?  KingKong650 has already created a 16gb regraded version, and I thought it would be nice if someone used the old 2008 TERMINATOR blu menu while using one of the regrades for the film (while putting all of the dvd extras and any articles).

Was the 35th anniversary Blu another fucking downmix?!
