Blade Runner DVD

Hi to O-OT and SE-OTers alike.

Although I've been a lurker here on these boards for many months, I decided to join ranks here.

I know the majority here are pro-O-OT, which I include myself in the mix. I was curious what everyone thought of the DVD version of Blade Runner. As all are probably aware, it's offered only as a Director's Cut and not the original theatrical version (does this sound familiar?). Although there is rumblings that an ultimate Blade Runner set is in the works which will include the theatrical, director's and an all new version; word has it that it's in entanglements with Legal, the studios and Ridley Scott.

My hopes are that TPTB will release this ultimate set so that I can have a choice in selecting which version to view.

Hai. Always BOTH versions.

I actually prefer the 'Directors Cut' of Blade Runner, but I still enjoy the voiceover version from time to time. So both, yes.

If they do it like the Dawn of the Dead set, it would be great.

By the way, what's TPTB?

I've been following the Blade Runner DVD saga for the past few years. Apparently Warner Bros is working on the special edition (as opposed to just talking about it), but it most likely will only contain the already-released Director's Cut, with a cleaned up transfer, and a few extras like a BBC documentary. I too prefer the Director's Cut, but would like the theatrical as well, ya know? While I doubt the 'legal' difficulties will be worked out any time soon (thank you Mr Jerry Perenchio ) I don't think the door is totally shut. I just watched the theatrical version on Spike TV a few weeks ago, so it's not like it "doesn't exist anymore". Plus the current Blade Runner is one of the crappiest dvds out there, so, I for one, will gladly accept the new one.

Has anyone seen the criterion LD version? I have been tempted a few times to buy it off of ebay.

criterion LD version...dammit man, maybe I should have invested in an LD player those few years ago.

I also prefer the DC, but thats not to say that I dont appreciate the theatrical cut. I havent really heard much, but that news about Warner Bros. (thanks windexed) sounds very promising...at least in terms of having a better DVD around...the current one is deplorable.

I don't have the Blade Runner DVD. What's so horrible about it?

Hi,

The DVD only offers the Director's Cut and does not include the original theatrical version (i.e. voiceover and happy ending). The DVD is not bad, but like SW, there are Blade Runner fans that would like the theatrical version readily available in DVD.
