Don't get too excited about this old transfer.

A lot of 80s/early 90s transfers looked very "neutralized", probably in order to read better on CRTs - for example, in early transfers of Empire, Hoth looked very white (more white than any extant print sources we've seen), and Yoda (and Dagobah in general) looked almost gray.

I'm wondering if this transfer also had a yellow boost so that the image would "read" better - the Carolco logo looks almost sepia-tone.

Not trying to pooh-pooh it - just saying that the Siskel and Ebert clips, which were during the theatrical release and thus clearly not timed for home video, have a much more pronounced blue cast in the night shots than that old DVD (possibly originally LD) transfer.

Yeah, you might be right. But to be honest, I didn't expect much from that DVD. Because normally such german releases from smaller companies, without use of an international big master are not as good as that. Also I expected paler colors, and I would not have wondered if it wouldn't have been non anamorphic widescreen, but a zoomed in full screen.

Maybe it has some colorboost, but at least it is not as colorrevisited, as the new releases. So maybe it is possible to get a bit nearer to the theatrical color timing.

Sure no need to get too excited, but better to check, then to leave a possible opportunity.

At least it is a nice DVD to add to my DVD/BD collection... (...and again a multidip.. damnit. :) )

@TServo2049: I just thought it was interesting, that's all. We won't change the color correction since it already looks the way it most likely should. :)

I add some more caps from the Video (same link to dropbox as some posts earlier).

For viewing with my popcorn hour I ripped the DVD to a mkv, so there are no top and bottom bars on the new screenshots.

I should stop to multi dip some titles, I now have ordered an US Extreme Edition Double DVD via eBay. Because it looks better than the German Ultimnate Edition DVD, and the US Ultimate Edition DVD. Also I have a japanese release (Premium Edition ver. 2.0) on its way to me. (Should arrive February.)

But I think now its time just to wait for Team Blu release...

Regarding the Color of the Carolco Logo:

Somehow I remember it more sepia than the Logo on the new Terminator 2 releases. I remember, that I was quite irritated by the metallic look, when I saw it first that way.

I got a bit back in the thread, but I lost patience, so I just ask:

Is there somwhere a list of the planned Special Features in the projected disc, and their Source regarding the planned Terminator 2?

Hello,
I just got myself the lossless pcm transfer of the old Terminator LD and want to create 2 ultimate versions for myself

1. The complete Monotrack with just the two bugs fixed
(switched rifle/shotgun effects during police shootout and missing shotgun effect Terminator/Reese/Sarah police car chase)
2. The new 5.1 mix with the old gun shot effects (including the above mentioned correction)

I have some questions before I start
Are there any other wrong or missing effects in the original Monotrack ?
How can I manage to fix those effects especially in the police shoot out?

As far as I read not all of the gun effects were changed in the new 5.1 mix.
I created a list with all changed gun effects I know of:

- 1st Sarah Connor kill
- Ginger kill
- Terminator Plasma rifle

Did I miss anything in that list?

All help would be appreciated. Thanks best regards
-loa

Please, for those wanting to start their own projects, go start your own thread, these threads we make are for our projects, not to discuss others projects, when we come into our thread because it is bumped I want to read what we are doing or what people want to see, or to discuss possible extras, etc. what we don't want to read about is other peoples doings, we can do that if we choose in your thread.

Thanks

One suggestion for the first TERMINATOR is to boost/enhance the bass elements.  I have the KingKong666 recolored version from TP as well as the modified mono with the ".1" track from the DVD.  The thing is.. the sound is still pretty weak, short of cranking up the volume on my receiver.

Also, have you guys considered cleaning any of the FX (such as the laser coming from the HK tank in the side scrolling shot in the future flashback that comes out a good inch below the laser barrel)?

T1 never had strong bass. It was non-Dolby, Academy mono, which always lacked low end. To add bass is to alter the mix to something it never was. It was an 80s B movie, it should sound like an 80s B movie.

And changing the FX would be no different than George Lucasing it. (Speaking of which, you are going to unfix the fixes made in the DVD/BD transfers, right? I know there was a shot in the future war sequence of that Terminator infiltrating the bunker, which originally had him facing in the wrong direction compared to the wide shots...)

Haha. I remember as a kid my friends and I would laugh at the part when the Terminator explodes cuz there was like no bass in the explosion sound. We'd turn up the bass on the receiver to the max and turn the treble down to minimumto try and help it....or turn the bass off completely and turn the treble up to the max just to hear what it sounds like lol.

Another question - IMDB says this:

Recent copies of The Terminator contain some restored footage, not found in the theatrical release. This footage is not selectable bonus material, rather it is automatically incorporated into the film. Among some of the shots restored are:

  • (At the factory)
  • A shot of Sarah making a final crawl before falling onto an inactive conveyor belt.
  • A shot of Sarah crawling on the inactive belt, towards an active one.
  • A shot of the terminator shifting to the left, then to the right.
  • A shot of the terminator riding on the active belt.
  • A shot of Sarah falling off the active belt, before entering the compactor.

Is this true, are there extra shots in either the DVD or Blu-ray transfers?

And here are the altered scenes in the modern transfers I was referring to:

The new MGM R1 DVD releases has two altered scenes, at the request of Lightstorm Entertainment, supposedly to fix goofs in the original picture: a scene set in the future, when a Terminator enters the rebel compound, has been flipped on its vertical axis; the scene where the Terminator leaves the motel in L.A. has been cropped/reframed so that his feet are no longer visible (this was done to fix a continuity problem: the original scene showed Schwarzenegger wearing shoes instead of boots as previously seen).

The first one can be easily fixed by re-flipping the footage to match the old VHS/LD/first DVD transfers. The second probably can't be fixed, at least not without switching to an SD source like the original Image DVD.

Call me crazy, but just picked up the THX AC-3 LaserDisc of T2, and to my ears it is subtly different than the original DVD. Maybe it's placebo, but it feels like it has slightly more impact and lower end punch.

Now only if I could rip it so you all could take a listen.  I've tried ripping these on an old MacBook with no luck. I have an iMac but no digital audio in.

Anyone else ever take a listen?

I have all but 3 of the releases now and the LD has more bass (Depending on the release) but I still say none are the true cinema mix

What's most remarkable is how good the video is for LaserDisc. Totally satisfying way to watch the film.

Has anyone ever done a preservation of a MUSE title?  I'm curious to see what analog HD looks like.

I have the first release dvd with the CDS mix, and I have compared all the DVD/Blu-ray releases to it and I can't hear much difference - and usually I can hear the differences quite easily. I may have to give it another listen though.

Guys would be easier and cooler toward team blu members to create your own thread ´s for your own projects.

Dj and co prefer to keep their threads focused on the project at hand.

it Will make it easier for everyone.

Has the sound mix been decided for T2 Team blu project?

Apologies if it has. Will talk in another thread about it.

I will post the specs to what we do when the time comes in its own new thread, this thread really is not ours anymore so I will not post here.

So why would Team Blu even care about making customised Blu-ray discos for The Terminator and Terminator 2 Judgment Day if they won't share any of their uploads on sites?

Talk about whipping a dead horse six ways from Sunday I tell ya hwhat.

Who said that Team Blu won't share their work? I didn't get that from DJ's post(s) at all.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!
