Everything looks great, Andrea... just want to bring to your attention the second commentary is with Joe Alves actually, you have 'John'.  No big deal, I just thought you might change that one before everyone prints their covers.  So glad you're using the HDTV as that is far and away the best presentation.  Great news!  Maybe your cat doesn't like the movie... so he sabotaged the project.

Thank you for the hint; cover updated - error fixed, spine white lines removed, spine icon replaced, h.264 logo replaced with the DTS one; it could be found in the first post, as usual.

Meanwhile, thanks also to your congratulations, I had a "cover frenzy" and I made also "The Thing" cover (at the end of this post)... hope you will appreciate it!

It's 4:20 a.m. here, it's "almost" time to sleep... NOW!

Let me know if you still want any other soundtrack you didn't get yet (french or english) :)

@Stamper: you know you are my "soundtrack pusher"! (^^,)

Even if I have not updated the thread in the last days, I worked A LOT on it... infact, this time I wanted to make a surprise, and release a BD-25 with menus!

I worked two days with MultiAVCHD, trying to obtain a simple but good result - just a menu for languages and subtitles, and the other for chapters, plus a trailer at the end of the movie - and after several trial, I thought I reached the final result.

But MPC didn't play the menus, and when I tried to open the folder as BD disc with VLC, it suddenly quit... so, I decided to burn a BD-25 to test it with my BD player and PS3... and guess what? My first BD coaster! (^^,)

So, I don't know if I must try to do it until I will (eventually) win the battle, or throw the towel and make a simple BD-25 without any menu? And, maybe when (if) I will be able to make a working BD with menus - or find someone who will and could make it for me - I could always release a version 1.1...Can you wait some days for further tests - maybe with any good result - or do you want a plain release (almost) right now? Almost, because I'm trying to fix Windows - some problems, don't know what it is, maybe a virus - so I can't release it RIGHT now; so, meanwhile, post your opinions here! The year 2014 started on the wrong foot...

I worked alot with MultiAVCHD the last week... I obtained an almost working BD with menus, but where chapters are OK, the setting menu - with soundtrack and subtitles - don't work at all... I'm desperate!

Can someone help me authoring a BD with menu using MultiAVCHD?!? I need a step-by-step guide, because now I'm completely lost... but still decided to release EFNY with a simple menu, as I'm so near the solution now!

Don't sweat it, buddy... just do what you can.  Looking forward to the project any way you want to present it.  All your releases have been great!

After seeing what you did on "The Thing" and "Halloween", saying I'm looking forward to this restoration of EFNY would be a major understatement!

 Nice.

Big fan of your work _,,,^..^,,,_. This is another of my favourite films, and the cover looks awesome.

Thanks again for all your hard work, can not wait to see this.

I had been so conflicted with the recent releases... but I am so happy you provided the ultimate version.

Thank you !

I'd like to know if the BD-25 is working well - in particular the animated menu.

So, please, post your BD brand and model, and if it works or not.

Also, a brief review will be really appreciated, not only about the preservation itself, but also about the BD authoring, as this is my first attempt to make a BD-25 compliant disc with menus...

Thank you very much!

Wow, Andrea.  This turned out even better than expected.  I'm just looking at the video itself which is amazing.  The sound is obviously top notch.  I don't have a Blu-ray burner so I can't comment on BD-25 performance.  Bottom line, the film itself looks and sounds better than any version of the film I've experienced to date.  Been a long time since I had HDNet or the dvr of that broadcast.  Nice to have it back in a stunning presentation with the best audio available.  Couldn't have asked for more.  Bravo and well done.  Thanks again for taking such care with one of the greatest films ever made.

Downloading now. ESCAPE has been on HDNet movies all month and looks terrific, so I am will be curious to watch this with the LD audio. I really like your THE THING restoration, though the encoding on it is funky to the point where I cannot pause, ff, rw, scan or chapter forward at all. it just locks up whatever BD player I try. I can only play and leave it be.

UPDATE: ImgBurn states the file size is too big. It's not by much, but all it takes is a smidge. I am going to overburn to a rewriteable BD as a test and see what happens.

Personally I would drop those foreign language tracks, which take up space and make it annoying as heck to maneuver from the main audio to the commentaries. There is also no need for redundant English tracks. The PCM and DTS are enough. Why include a lossy DD track?

Just food for thoughts on your next restoration project.

Nah Thank you for the foreign languages.

im not the biggest fan of dubbed movies save for those movies i saw dubbed growing up. especially that those movies from the 70/80's have great dubs in my country.

so Thank you fr that :)

im currently getting it, Will give feedback asap.

I've tried two different burns and neither work. They won't play at all.

Strange... please post your BD burning software, BD media and BD player.

Other user that actually have burned the project on BD are invited to do the same, so it will possible to know if it's a common problem.

I burned the BDMV & Certificate folders with ImgBurn to a BD-25 then played it on my panasonic DMP-BD60.

The first thing I noticed was that it asked me if I wanted to play AVCHD video files or Picture files, which is strange for a blu-ray disc. After selecting AVCHD, the disc played the animated menus fine and I could select the audio or scenes select sub menus, however after selecting a scene the player would freeze for a few seconds before playing the Trailer!  Starting again at the main menu the movie played from the beginning when I pressed play, but like Matt_Stevens I couldn't ff, rw scan or chapter forward.

The other thing I noticed was that the commentaries were not selectable from the audio menu and I couldn't find how to play the trailer, even though it did play inadvertently.

After looking at the profile level maybe it's because it's 4.1 and my player prefers 4.0 which seems to be the default setting in multiAVCHD.

As for the movie itself, this is definitely the best version out there and head & shoulders above my Region B blu-ray, many thanks.

Thanks for the info. Trailer was a bonus, and I put it in the disc at the last minute; it will play right after the credits, as a "gift" to whom has waited until the very end... (^^,)

As MultiAVCHD allow only 6 soundtracks and 5 subtitles (+ no sub option), is it possible to select the other soundtracks/commentaries only directly during the vision of the movie... I tried to add more than 6 soundtracks in the menu, without luck. If someone is aware of a trick to do it, please let me know.

About 4.1 profile: don't know if it could be the problem, but into my two PS3 (different models) it works flawlessy - chapters, ff, rw etc. - if you have a spare BD-R to "sacrifice", you could try to use TSmuxer or another software to change each file's profile from 4.1 to 4.0, burn again and see if it works or not.

And, thanks for your positive feedback: an "old, bad, low bitrate MPEG-2" (^^,) turned out to be really good as video source for this project!

This should not have even been asked lol is this an AVCHD on a BD25 or a Blu-ray? a properly authored BD should just fire right up and go to either a first play scene\video\intro or to the main menu that's it no asking anything.

I selected "Blu Ray" when I used MultiAVCHD for author the BD-25... don't know if it is a MultiAVCHD bug! Used ImgBurn to burn folders to BD-RE.

I will try to play my own BD-RE of EFNY with several BD players today; I'll let you know the results in about five hours.

I am on a Windows 7 Pro PC and tried using ImgBurn, which immediately warned me the file size was too big for a BD25. So I tried an overburn and while it finished, playback via PowerDVD is troublesome. It takes a while to load and can crash the program (the same thing happens with THE THING). My PS3 won't play it at all. So I tried burning it with different settings. Same thing.

I then used tsMuxerGUI on the downloaded files and removed all the foreign audio tracks and outputed for BD just the film and English sound. That came to 21 GB. I then used ImgBurn to create a BD. That works much better in PowerDVD, though it still can freeze when scanning.

However it will not play in my PS3 (latest firmware).

I have created BD's from numerous fan restorations and the only time I have had any trouble has been with ESCAPE and THE THING so I would urge _,,,^..^,,,_ to do additional testing. BD authoring can be tricky to nightmarish. I'd love to enjoy both of those titles because it's obvious a lot of love went into them, but alas... I can't.

So this would not even play correctly creating a movie only file? there is something very wrong with it for sure then, probably encoder settings, but this definitely sounds like this is not in spec at all.

I have sent you a PM Matt with a suggestion you could try to maybe put this in spec and possibly work, but who knows, plus you said it is a little oversize?

Matt, sorry to hear that...

About size: all the files/folders are 24.235.994.552 bytes - well under the 25.000.000.000 bytes of a BD-25, and I had no problems burning it with ImgBurn on Windows XP; I used UDF 2.50; maybe another UDF profile should be used?

Don't know, for "The Thing" I made the BD, without menus, using TSMuxer; for "Halloween", again without menus, I used EasyBD lite... any other feedback?

If someone is aware of a free BD authoring software (apart MultiAVCHD) that support menu, please let me know - infact, all the [spoRv] projects used only free software!

To whom it may test and/or analize it: is it possible to test the EFNY BD-25 without downloading all the movie - so only the introduction logo and animated menus, BD structure and dummy files for movie and trailer - here (24MB). Any help to find out what is wrong will be REALLY appreciated, and I'm sure will be helpful also for other fan editors.
