I have a friend (female, aged 16) who has never seen Star Wars. Any of them.

I want to try an experiment. Tell me what you guys think.

When Episode III comes out on DVD, I'm going to give her I, II, and III and tell her to watch them. Then I'll give her the official IV, V, and VI. Ask her what she thinks.

Then I'll give her MagnoliaFan's I, II, and III and the OOT. Ask her what she thinks.

Now what do you think - should I show her Magnolia's and the OOT first, or the Luca$ versions first?

ive been wondering about this too, one day im probably gonna have kids. how do you talk to your kids about sex or drugs? how do you talk to them about star wars?

In my opinion, there is no reason to watch the horrible Prequels if you haven't first seen the Original Trilogy. After all, they're not movies, but an extended 6-hour backstory for Darth Vader, with virtually no plot, revelations or excitement.

If you don't know who Darth Vader is, why would you care?

But what order to show them...certainly the prequels will completely ruin the suspence in the OT and the revelations...

See, that's the point of my experiment...since I know she thinks she won't like the movies (I've known her for 12 years for God's sake) I figured I'd try showing them the Luca$ way, but then again Magnolia was trying to preserve all the surprises of the OT from what I've heard. I may wait until he makes all his edits (I-VI) and show her them, but I want to experiment with the Luca$ way with someone I know won't care and see what happens.

I would go MagFan/O-OT first, then the official version second. Don't spoil the Vader is Luke's father thing for her by showing her the official version first

If you know she won't like the movies then why are you wasting her time with this shit? Don't TORTURE the girl, make her HAPPY. Forcing her to sit through 6 movies TWICE including 2 different versions of two trilogies isn't going to enlighten her, it's going to make her HATE YOU. You're not going to learn anything you don't already know--which is that she doesn't like Star Wars, regardless of whether some anonymous fanboy or some no-necked gazillionaire has his fingerprints all over it.

and spelling Lucas with a dollar sign is about as old as Jar Jar jokes, dirt, and Barbara Bush's pussy. i.e. terribly unwitty.

Yeah, let's bust on this guy specifically for that, I'm sure he's the only person in the history of time to come up with that little gem of subversive humor. Honestly, what's more pathetic? An admitedly lame joke on the spelling of Lucas, or going out of your way to try to make that person feel bad about it.

if she's really not into the movies (or thinks she wont be), maybe the PT *is* a good place to start. they're more "user friendly", right?
but if she likes a good story (and not to stereotype), as many gals do, she'll take to star wars because it's gripping and compelling.

i'd do it like this (if possible)...

(all pre-SE)

(both magfan's)

then when she's fully hooked, show her the special editions of the OT, then the lucas versions of I & II.
if she still has any desire at all to see the lucas version of III (after being subjected to a flogging by lucas's I & II), take her out to see it in may.
if she is just sick to her stomach from so much modern lucas crap, apply several treatments of OT and maybe magfan once again... and then wait for the edit of III to come out.

this should work.

Here's the thing. I've known her for 12 years. She insists that she won't like them, but I know that she'll watch them. I'll show her the OOT first and then if she does like them I'll show her the MF edits. My initial idea was to do an experiment with someone who's never seen Star Wars to see if they'd be turned off by watching the prequels first et cetera, et cetera.

And Bizzle ... never mind....
