Omnibus editions are fine these days, but with vintage material you lose all the ads and the letters page. A real snapshot of the time the comics originally ran in, and what was on the fan's minds.
Very true. I grew up reading 2000AD/Judge Dredd and loved all the adds and letters each week. But that had 5 or 6 running stories to keep you going and the next part of the story was only 7 days away. I could never get into the US model of reading a few pages and then waiting a month for the next few. My ideal is an Alan Moore size opus that you need a crane to lift and a couple of weeks to soak up ;-).
For example, I could never love Moore's acclaimed 'The Killing Joke' because it's so short. It felt like asking Michaelangelo to sketch a fresco on the back of a stamp.
Anybody know how long/many pages 'The Star Wars' is gonna be in total?
