I just made an account at the MySpleen forum. I made a post asking what to do to get the WHIO version of "The Star Wars Holiday Special." Has anyone else downloaded it? What do I need to do exactly in order to get that?

Stop posting the same thing all over the place for starters.

I think I'll start... by shoving my foot up your kbooty.

You've been on this site less than two days. Rudeness is not going to make people want to help you. You already got off on the wrong foot posting that piratebay link in the other thread.

I was trying to be funny. No rudeness intended. I made a Usenet account on Giganews and now I am trying to download SWHS WHIO version with the Mimo software and it keeps stopping at 33%. I got the free trial version that manually needs to be renewed to allow charges. Should I bump up to the paid version right away? Is that why they keep throttling my download and stopping at 33%?

Ok. Text can often be misinterpreted in a vacuum. We've had more than our share of troublemakers the past year, so people will naturally be a little cautious.

Can't help with the usenet thing, maybe someone else can.

I have a question about downloading the SWHS WHIO version from usenet/giganews.

Hi,

I don't mean to bombard you guys with so many questions. I am very anxious to download this and I am tired of trying to figure this out. Perhaps you could help me out with this since you probably know all the ins and outs of this stuff.

I made a Usenet account on Giganews and now I am trying to download SWHS WHIO version with the Mimo software and it keeps stopping at 33%. I got the free trial version of newsgroups/usenet that manually needs to be renewed to allow charges. Should I bump up to the paid version right away? Is that why they keep throttling my download and stopping me at 33%?

Is there just a torrent I could download this from? I am very confused on how to use this newsgroup stuff. It seems I have to use this Mimo software to download it, no other options. The main page is very un-userfriendly. Do I have to use Linux or Windows run commands to get this to work? There seems to be no download links on the site.

The website I am talking about is this one with multiple links (because I am not sure which link is the one I should use to download?):

(LINKS OMITTED as this was also sent as a private message)

I just use ctrl f and type "SWHS WHIO" in the ctrl f search box to find  the file I want.

I would really appreciate it if you could help me with this.

Binreader > Sabnzbd.  It's much easier to use.

Mimo is an *option*, albeit one that GigaNews pushes pretty hard. Others can recommend better programs.

I just can't imagine why it stops at 33% -- that doesn't sound like much sense on their part. Is it possible to view a list of the multiple RAR files and download them individually? Then you could use something like 7zip to combine the files. (See previous note about others' recommendations of better programs.)

A user that I will leave unnamed, private messaged me links to a website that appears to be a cloud storage site called "MEGA" that holds all the .rar files of the SWHS WHIO version discs 1 & 2.

I got a problem though. My ISP Comcast/xFinity (xFaility) is throttling my download of this to just a little under 100 KB/s even though my connection should be capable of at least 1MB/s. I've had this problem before downloading torrent, but it would usually only happen towards the very end of the download so I didn't mind it that much. This one is happening right away. Do you now if there is a way around this?

I just downloaded Binreader. Could you private message me how to use this thing? It looks like I upload nzb files to it and then it finds the files and downloads them. Is that correct?

I'm new to this whole file sharing/torrent thing. I don't download very often as I like to buy my media legally. Unfortunately for The Star Wars Holiday Special and original Star Wars Trilogy, I don't have a choice.

I thought 7-zip was just for .zip files? I thought I would need WinRAR to combine/extract .rar files? I bought WinRAR years ago and the product key has never failed to rework when I have ported it onto new PC builds. That's why I never delete emails. You never know when they will come back in handy.

Torrent works fine, i verified it while you were bitching

Yeah, mine is working too. But what is your download speed? Is it going to take you 2 years to download it?

I got the whole thing downloaded and burned to a disc, looks great. Is there a DVD/Blu-ray case jacket and/or printable DVD label made for this version? I just made one myself, but my Photoshop skills are rather limited so if there is a good case jacket & label I will definitely jump on it.

I'm not a usual poster on here.  I'd like to find some dvd cover art and disc art for the WHIO version 2.

I think my favorite Holiday Special artwork uses the TV Guide advertisement.  That was kind of the thing which seems most akin to a movie poster for this thing.

What is kbooty?  I am not familiar with that.  Can you direct me?

I'm excited to find this version of the Holiday Special, and grateful to those to helped make it possible.  But I'm also kind of torn, because now I feel like I have to watch the Holiday Special again!

The AG-1980 was firmly in the "prosumer" category. (As was most S-VHS gear.) All the industrial decks I ever used didn't have internal TBC's, as the typical studio setup would likely have an external unit. How such a feature laden deck with such good specs came out at the original price point is a mystery to me. (The decks I used in college probably cost three times more.) I used mine as a home editing system for years.

The 1980 has a lesser known cousin, the AG-5710, which has the same specs except for the addition of an RS-232 port on the back. It can sometimes be found for less.

What about the Panasonic AG-5700? I have that and the JVC HR S5900 svhs machines. Got them both for $80 from a member of an anime club that no longer needed high end vcr's to acquire and copy shows because of how it's all online now.

For a regular vcr sold in 2002, the Panasonic PV-9662 (another one I have) is also pretty good. I bet that wouldn't go for a lot at all and it is way better than your usual vhs/dvd combo deck all the photo stores seem to use for their tape conversion services.

I had friends over the other day, and for some reason we threw this disc in while we waited for the pizza guy to get here.

He gets there, and he asks what we're watching. "Star Wars Holiday Special? Is that like a remake, or the old ones? That sounds like fun!"

I said "It's not! It's awful!" =D

I think he wanted to come inside and watch it with us.

Not familiar with those models. The main selling point of the 1980 and 5710 is the built in time base corrector and other picture controls.

my s-vhs vcr's have a lot of features on them that I'm not sure if I'll ever figure out. Hopefully I know enough to use the best settings for capturing, but lot of the stuff is pretty useless anyways with today's non linear editing.

I thought I took screencaps of the same capture from my different vcr's. I'll have to find and post them sometime.

Always good to have more than one deck in your arsenal. You never know when you'll get that one mutant tape that defies logic.
