ww12345: There is no other feature film called Melody Time, and certainly not one from 1948. And Roy Rogers and Trigger do appear in the film - remember the live-action intro to the Pecos Bill segment? (Not to mention that Roy Rogers narrates the segment, and performs the song...)

Would be interesting to see an IB print, even if we already have access to the uncut Pecos Bill on the R2 DVD.

Transfer complete. Hardware used: Panasonic NV FS200 HQ, SAMSUNG DVDR119.

One problem, though. IMGBurn won't rip the image. If I try to do a straight dump, it says the disc has multiple sessions. It tells me to use the "build image" mode and select the folder. I do just that, and the program fails while reading the first vob file.

Will try again later.

It's been a long time since I've dealt with a multi-session disc.

Would it be reasonable to copy the files to your hard drive and build an image from those?

Oh, maybe I'm wrong. I just figured Roy Rogers wasn't in Melody Time. I'd be interested in preserving it, even though I hate the movie! Lol

If you could keep an eye out for a print of THX 1138 over there, I would really appreciate it.

@SilverWook: what do you want exactly ? If it's to buy it I'll check for the price and other informations and pass them to you and ask the seller to contact you directly. If it's not what you want, please be a little precise on your intentions so we can be on the same page.

Yes.

I think I'll just upload the individual vob files on my GoogleDrive tomorrow. It should be the same thing, right?

Yep, that'll probably work. Thanks!!!

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Actually, I just tried another pc and it made an ISO file without complaining once. I'm uploading it now.

OK, I'm too stupid to use these boards I guess - anyone know how to make it so the whole thing is not highlighted?

I can't seem to undo it either, must be another bug?

What segment from Fantasia is it?

Sorcerers Apprentice. It says for the 50th - I don't know what 50th; Fantasia's?

Author

It's nothing new. It's just the segment reprised from the 1990 re-release.

Author

That's what I figured, but do you know of anywhere that would have that sequence in non-DNRed format? Either way though, it's pretty expensive...

I wouldn't get the Fantasia print, especially if it's post-restoration. I'd save the money for some other project.

As to the query before about digitally recreated titles, I generally frown upon the practice. It's not authentic, and I'd only recommend it if there's no other option available (the film element is completely destroyed). However, if the print we are using/transferring/preserving is a foreign-language element (with foreign credits), I'd recommend a reconstruction or something of the English credits.

The Snow White recording sounds good! I'm very pumped. Admittedly, it's not a perfect film, but it's quite a monumental one. The recording's definite a good part of history; I know it was eye-opening to see the pre-restoration Pinnochio.

Absolutely agreed with falcon on all he said about Fantasia. Let's wait for a better opportunity (like a complete pre-1950 release print, in which the Pastoral will be there complete). For SW, that was the case. Nothing of the original opening and ending cards are known to exist. Scott McQueen, the responsible of the restauration for 2003 DVD, supervised the recreation based on some foreing prints stock (apparently). The result was presented as a bonus on 2003 DVD and spliced directly on the film for the Blu Ray. It's the only film (pre-Fantasia) that had the credits fully reconstructed with all the original elements/informations from it's first release. The other films (Bambi, Pinocchio, Dumbo) are all still fitted with the re-release (1950's) remade credits (althought Disney added somehow to them a fake RKO logo. What a cheap trick). Some, like Cinderella, had their title cards remade completely because they needed to preserve some continuity with the ones they needed to re-use for the bonus features on dvd & BR. You can tell very easily that they were digitally remade by seeing them.

So here we are... Long live pirates, bootleggers & angry fans...

On a lighter note, does anybody here have been able to locate a good print of B&TB ? It sould be much better quality than the LD, especially in higher resolution for future projects.

What do you think about it ?

If a print could be found that would be awesome - digital soundtrack and straight from the original CAPS files... Plus it'd be on low-fade stock. I have to say that's another film I'm not a fan of, but I'd be definitely on board for a restoration project of that...

Me three. I would KILL to see a scan of an original-release print of BATB, with the original photochemical timing intact. The modern releases are too bright and too saturated - even though the old VHS/LD transfers were adjusted to read on CRT displays, they still show that originally, it looked much more "filmic" than it does now.

I've probably mentioned this before, but Derann did release BATB, Aladdin, and several other classics complete on Super 8. Whether they are in their original aspect ratios, I have no idea.

On a side note, does anyone know how many workprints are out there? (Aside from BATB Work in Progress.) I had at least one back in the 90's, but it was on the tail end of a bootleg tape of The Black Cauldron and incomplete as a result.

Not sure how many there are. Some of them used to be on the Spleen, but they were taken down, presumably because of their general rule of "no Disney." I have the Great Mouse Detective one, but never got any of the others.

I know that TLM, Aladdin, TLK and Pocahontas all showed up in "Mr. Whorse's Workprint Film Collection" - the Rapidshare links still show up on FileKnow, but unfortunately they're all long dead. :(

I'm afraid that BATB is one of a kind, SilverWook, the other films weren't presented with a workprint AFAIK, even as a bonus. But I can be wrong...

Speaking of this one, here's sample of my atempt of colour correction. Nothing much, but it's an atempt. At the moment, I'm nearly throwing the towell on this one because there are just too many elements that had been tempered manually & separately over the years. That's why I'm wishing for a print be found.

Here's the recolored sample: http://www.mediafire.com/download/4gqy9edzd9unbqr/Test+1.zip
