the "What a dump" thing was said as an aside. he's a rude character. not mean, but it wasn't said to be mean, it was just sort of said. kind of like thinking out loud.

the "oh shit oh shit" didn't bother me. i'd be saying the same thing. what does he say in the Lucasland version of it? i don't remember.
