Glitch With The DVDs?

I'm not sure if this is just my specific DVD players, or perhaps I got a defective DVD set. But I want to know if anyone else has had the following problems with their discs.

This, for the most part, deals with the multiple angle feature. Of course, there aren't multiple angles on the movies, which is where it gets odd. Around the "A long time ago, etc." screen, the movie goes into the 1/3 angle mode. On one of my players, while this is going on, the "1/3" label is up in the corner of the screen and cannot be removed. It ends shortly after the crawl finishes and the real movie begins. At which point, there's sort of a jump in the video/audio.

Around the same area it ends on "A New Hope", there's another odd glitch. As the first ship flies overhead, the screen flashes blue and theres a split second cut in the music as well. This has happened on both my DVD players.

So again, has anyone else had these problems? Are my discs defective? Or for some bizarre reason is it just my two DVD players causing this? Hoping to hear back from anybody.

The multiple angles are for French and Spanish. If you play the movie in either language the crawls will be different.

I know bootlegging the DVDs are not allowed to be discussed on the forum but i encountered the problem when i made a backup copy of the movies. (I own the originals but dont like to play them or lend them to friends for fear of them getting scratched.) I was using DVD shrink 3.2 and it happened although it should be angles 1/5 not 1/3. I am not saying your copies are bootlegged but that is the only time i have seen it happen as it didn't happen on my originals. And the fact that you only have the angles option of 1/3 is rather puzzling as the dvd comes in five different languages not 3. Email me if you wish to discuss it further.

And what is this talk of multiple angles? I don't understand.

Wrong, you live in a different region.

Some studios use multi angle for this sort of thing, some use subtitles and some use seamless branching. Another example of using the multi angle is Shrek.

But what do angles have to do with anything? The film was only shot and edited using one camera angle for each shot. I mean this isn't a basketball game where you can switch from camera to camera. What are you guys talking about?

The different angles represent the rollups for the different dubs.

My set is the Region 1 Widescreen Version purchased from Best Buy a mere few moments after it opened on the release date. Not a bootleg. Although I think I understand the angle problem, it doesn't explain the quick blue-screen flash on "A New Hope".

Thanks Moll.

Misty, I don't know what to tell you. That sounds weird. Maybe your discs are defective?

THAT sounds more like a glitchy disc, because it sounds like the blue screen function (either on your TV or DVD player) is kicking in during the transition, which would indicate a temporary loss of signal.
