This might be interesting:

What do you think ?

Lol - I think I own that! I've got a handful of Tech Jiminy Cricket shorts. Cute programs - just long enough to be educational but short enough to keep the kids' attention. :)

I'be done some frame captures of my print. I believe they are posted over at AMPS. If you are not over there, you don't know what you are missing!

I'll go check it out, I'didn't see them apparently. Which ones of the Jiminy do you have ?

Author
Time

Off the top of my head I know I have "I'm no fool with water," "I'm no fool with fire," "How to catch a cold," "Elephants:that's the nature of things," and a few others. They're all Tech, too, as far as I can remember...

Do you know how many of those shorts were produced ? BTW, I just checked AMPS and all I could find is the Pinocchio frames (by you), so I'll keep digging.

Speaking of Pinocchio, is your print a copy of the 1950's re-release (with the original complete RKO opening ?

Author
Time

I don't remember. I do remember looking them up on IMDB, but I don't remember what the numbers were when I got all through. There were a lot - I do remember that...

As far as Pinocchio, I have no idea. I suppose I could check, although knowing that it's a fairly late release (from '84 or '85 on Mylar) I'm guessing that if there was a rerelease version that's what I've got...

Ok. Thanks ww1234. Now a question of ethic to all people interested on this Disney gig. If good recreations of the title cards of the firsts disney animated features and shorts (by good I mean more authentic than the poor job Disney has done over the years with some of their releases) were to be done, would you agree with this initiative ? For example, for the prints of Snow White, Pinocchio, Bambi and others released by RKO at first (before the release of Lady and the Tramp), all of the intertitles bearing informations of the original release were changed (sometimes the tilte cards were completely digitally redone or cut) to fit new release informations. Would you agree that we recreate those original title cards for future fan release ?

At least it can't worst than the ones Disney have done for the LD, DVD & BR, which, in some occasions, they're just poor digital recreation that you can immediately see that they were newly done without having see the original (ex: Cinderella) of just a job partially done (Pinocchio with only the RKO logo but the re-release credits).

So, would you agree with that ? Thanks to share your thoughts

Bob Furmanek is someone who works in Hollywood, like Mike Verta (e.g., he's the guy who found the color negative of The Cage). I have no idea if he actually owns the print, he just posted that frame scan on a forum discussion about color timing.

And as to RKO titles, I think it's pointless to create speculative recreations of them. I would only be on board for recreating them if someone had access to a print with the original titles, or at least frame grabs from such a print.

Agreed. No point of recreating without references (even thought Scott MacQueen did it with the Snow White titles, which was a good job by using elements from foreign prints). Speaking of RKO cards, will this be of any interests ?

Ditto about having a print with the original titles on them. Otherwise, just guessing is not good "preservationist" mindset... :)

As far as the title cards, I don't know. They look like they're from the VHS, DVD, and BD releases respectively. In that case, they're almost guaranteed to be inaccurate. I agree with Tservo - pretty much we need scans of original prints to even get in the "close" category. Even if that meant we were just color correcting to match, that would still be better than the messed up colors/DNR/other problems of the Disney versions.

So, do we have to assume that the Disney film prints that will be sacnned by Poita (pre-Lady & the Tramp) don't have those titles ?

Author
Time

TBH, I don't know. That'd be a question for Poita to answer. I would actually assume they do, but like I say, I don't know.

BTW ww12345, I couln't find the Snow White images that you posted on AMPS. Could you re-post the links to them, if possible ?

Author
Time

Yeah. I wonder where I put them; I know they're on my Photobucket somewhere...

Thanks for the upload. Is that me or the images looks faded (severe magenta tone) ?

Author

They're actually a bit faded, but more towards the purple end of the spectrum. It was a problem with a lot of Fuji prints from the '80s. It's also got a pretty bad case of "Fuji Rot," black dots that come and go all over the frame. Fortunately, "pretty bad" only means like 1/100,000 frames has one tiny black mark... :)

Re: SnowWhite Eclecta, the italian bootleg tape. I'm recording it on my DVD-R right now. There's some tape damage (I've played this same VHS countless times throughout my childhood), and in some parts the movie looks much murkier than I remembered. Who knows how many generations down the line this tape is. On the other hand, beneath all that damage, I see a rich, warm colour palette, lots of saturated blues and yellows, many shades of brown and red. And to prove its autenticity, you can hear audio splices, and there's cue marks.

I can't wait to upload it.

Transfer complete. Hardware used: Panasonic NV FS200 HQ, SAMSUNG DVDR119.

One problem, though. IMGBurn won't rip the image. If I try to do a straight dump, it says the disc has multiple sessions. It tells me to use the "build image" mode and select the folder. I do just that, and the program fails while reading the first vob file.

Will try again later.

Did you "finalize" the DVD on the recorder?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Yes.

I think I'll just upload the individual vob files on my GoogleDrive tomorrow. It should be the same thing, right?
