There really is no way of telling what version that is... the poor spelling in the ad doesnt inspire confidence. I dont even bother with ebay anymore. THe best versions are right here.

So are the menus custom-made by whatever hack happens to be selling them, or are they largely constant among the different versions? Or are there just too many "other" versions out there to know what is what?

I have never seen those menus before. It's possible that someone did their own version from scratch or they just added their own menus to a previously done version found here.

On this site, the two versions most widely available right now are the TR47 and Dr. Gonzo versions, but some promising others are on the way. The original TR47 is barebones with no menus. This was originally done to dedicate all of the disc space to the audio and video only. It is standard 4:3 widescreen with the original PCM audio from the laserdiscs. The original Dr. Gonzo version has more bells and whistles like anamorphic 16:9 widescreen, full (and very professional looking) menus, an additional audio commentary track, and even an easter egg. But because of the extra stuff, video quality suffers slightly, and audio quality is a little degraded. It's a trade-off.

Still, other versions are coming down the pike that may improve on these two previous efforts, but the TR47 and Dr. Gonzo versions are generally the best ones to date.

Word. Thanks for the recap.

I originally thought I'd just stroll online and find me some OT DVDs. Now it's clear that unless the buyer and the seller are fairly knowledgeable and halfway honest, you won't know what you're gonna end up with.

Kinda like that honeymoon package to Syria that I bought. *Research! Research!*

MeBeJedi, any updates on your transfer work? Have you compared it directly to the TR47 transfers and if so what are the improvements (detail, black levels, ghosting etc.)? I notice some slight ghosting effects or motion blur on the TR47 transfers especially on ESB. If you´ve gotten the TR47´s then please give us some info on the comparison. And also, what do you expect of your anamorphic transfer, will it be worth it detail wise?

I've not yet received a copy of TR47's version (though I haven't checked mail today either.)

I am finishing the 4x3 transfer as I type. It'll be done in a few hours, and I'll send it to Rikter for BitTorrents. I am waiting for some more software to arrive before I start on the anamorphic version, just to clean up the "little things". I will say this, I was watching my old transfer on my friend's 65-inch widescreen tv, and it looked sweet, even zoomed in.

Hehe...I can't wait for this, it sounds awesome...my uncle's gonna be pissed that I'm going to replace his birthday present with these (I gave him copies of the Dr. Gonzo versions I downloaded), but if these look as good as they've been hyped, he'll be happy...

--edit--

Oh, and don't worry about the whole 5.1 thing, just got a plugin that will let me use 5.1 audio. Thanks anyway.

MeBeJedi,

I'm still using a prehistoric 56K connection, so I can't download these massive files. Is there any way to obtain DVD-R (or +R) versions of your work?

Thanks!

Hmm...can't say I do.

After flipping a few pages back in this thread, looks like you don't have a burner yet.

For us dinosaurs still using dial-up, will we be able to purchase burned copies through Rikter?

Not quite correct. I have a single-layer burner, and hope to upgrade to a DL-burner soon.

I'll have them as well - it would help fund future versions (as well as my future DL burner. )

That's about what I got my current Memorex for. Thanks for the info.

Hi, this is my first post here.

I must say i'm very interessted in seeing how MeBeJedi and Zion's Sets are going to look like!

I found my way here when i bought my T47 Bootleg set and started too check for comparisons of Bootleg sets, and i follow the threads closely.

I just took two Caps of the T47 Bootleg and the Official DVD, and i must say it's scary to see them beside one another. Check the link.

No joke, and there is NO WAY that Chewie was ever as brown as he is in the new 2004 edition. I've seen one of the real costumes, and the new colorized 2004 DVDs are a real travesty.

"and the new colorized 2004 DVDs are a real travesty."

I'll give you that. Perhaps your "Ted Turner" analogy was more correct than I thought.

Another update: I goofed on the brightness, and have to recompile (and if I keep goofing up, maybe I will have to make my own thread. )

New transfer in 24 hours. Assuming all goes well, it will be shipped to Rikter tomorrow, and subsequently put on BitTorrents as soon as possible (Thursday/Friday). Here's to hoping you guys get to enjoy my version this weekend.

[EDIT] In any case, Rik will be putting my first attempt on BT, so you guys will at least get some idea of what I've been able to do so far.

Did you see the comparisons of the new DVDs to the three bootlegs posted here awhile back? Sure, the clarity is unreal, but Leia looks a little like a painted-up whore from the 1880s.

And you guys laughed when I brought up the Ted Turner colorized classics....

The 2004 SSE versions exhibit colors that NEVER existed in real life, and never will no matter how many times Georgie Porgy changes his mind.
