I don't care if Luke dies, but do we need to keep going back to that well? Star Wars is starting to equal some pretty serious unoriginal storytelling.
If it's in service to the story and not a cheap stunt, I can live with it. I doubt it would happen in the first sequel though.
Where were you in '77?
I was kind of hoping to see Luke go down in a blaze of glory, holding off insurmountable odds just long enough to allow his companions to escape some dire situation at the end of Episode 8. (as long as they can do it in a way that seems fresh and is not trying overly hard to copy Obi-Wan's demise)
I hope they get more creative with any lightsaber fights too. Use the environment and get some good dialogue in there. Personally, I thought "Ryan vs. Dorkman 2" was way better than any duel in the prequels.

Great, now I'm hungry.
You know what? Disregard what I said.
I'm not against character death, it's just I think that Luke should still be the protagonist. If any other character died in service to the story, I wouldn't mind.
I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.
I don't care who dies as long as it's a dignified death and isn't rendered meaningless by future sequels.

Well Luke dying would not have to be gruesome. It's not like Star Wars is too dark for character deaths SPOILERS the aforementioned Larses, Ben, Tarkin and co., Jabba, Boba, Yoda, Palps, Qui-Gon, Maul, Shmi, Jango, Dooku, Mace and co., and Ric Olie. END SPOLIERS
Boba's death is debateable. I can't recall Ric dying outside of the Frinkverse?
Frinkverse? I like that.
But yeah, I don't believe Ric was ever killed.
JEDIT: No mention of his death.
Frinkverse isn't canon? But actually I just assumed that his death in AOTR actually happened but Lucas cut it out of the movie because he has no respect for Ric.
You'd think they would have brought him back on The Clone Wars series. Maybe we can lobby J.J. to have an aged Ric or his descendant in the sequels?
Where were you in '77?
Ric is in the nine Corellian limboes.

Stop trying to drag this thread back on-topic.
Sorry, but there is essentially nothing to talk about in this topic because Disney/Abrams haven't given us squat about any spoiler. That is why this thread goes off on tangents, simply because its all speculation at this point and we're all just waiting around for some confirmation of anything about the movie.

Mini Ric!
I don't want to hear "evil can never be destroyed". Star Wars is supposed to be escapist. There's a reason ANH was created.

Yeah, so Lucas could make sequels and prequels.
Yes are no to another galaxy-wide conflict?
We have to have SOME sort of conflict, don't we?
I say yes. Maybe loyalists of some kind, or something similar.

"galaxy-wide" is the key phrase. There's also smaller conflicts.
Funny this topic should come up, I was forwarded this relevant article this morning:
^That's what I ask myself in regards to almost every comic book movie that's been released lately. I'd rather see Batman face a schizophrenic child killer who lives in a rat-infested apartment building than some international terrorist organization who wants to bring the First World to its knees.

Agreed.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!
