Into Darkness, on the other hand, lacks the charm of the first film.  It seems half finished.

Lindelof didn't do any of the writing for the first film. We also have him to thank for Cumberbatch being Kahn.

I'm going to call him "Cucumber" and be done with it.

I stopped posting there the moment everyone lept to Lucasfilm's defense after they announced they were putting 1993-quality transfers on frickin' dvd.

Did anyone there make ridiculous arguments like "It's 1970s film quality! You can't ask for any better!"?

The saddest lines were from TFN'ers who tell OOT fans regarding the 2006 OOT Non-Anamorphic DVD's:

"You are getting what you deserved now, since you have disrespected him for years now.  Just remember Lucas said these versions don't exist, so you should be lucky you're getting anything!"

Statements like that always seemed odd to me since we were all SW fans?  As much as I don't like the Prequels, I would always support a release of the Original PT movies if Lucas decided to change those movies too.  I never understand why TFN'ers cared if Lucas decided to release the OOT versions, since they were Special Editions fans anyway?  As a SW fan, I wouldn't have a problem if Lucas released a Boxset of the OOT, '97, '04, '11 versions like Bladrunner, that way any fans of any version could be happy.

Very strange people over at TFN, but I would love to talk to them personally and see if they are just circling the wagons for Lucas or they actually believe the BS they say.

The hardcore Lucas sycophants over at TFN remind me of religious fanatics.

I think you'd find that most people are much less extreme IRL.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

TFN reminds me of the kind of people they spoof in every single spoof of a Star Wars fan ever.

I view us as halfway intelligent.

The only thing I can remember finding that I thought that made TFN decent was the fan film "Desert Duel"

This was the best and still to this date, the best fan film I have ever seen so far... fair play to the people who made that and are part of that "place"

In addition to wanting the Sith to return, TFN wants the Jedi to think that the Sith are extinct again and they want the Sith to rule the galaxy again and they want the Sith to self-destruct again.

Perhaps they also want the spirit of Darth Bane to return in one of Palpatine's clone bodies.

 ...

But that's exactly what happened in the prequel films!

History will repeat itself. The Enterprise will keep exploding, Bill Murray will never escape Groundhog Day, and Arthur will never get the Holy Grail!

You'd think a knowledge of the past would be valuable, like Obi-Wan wouldn't take Luke aside and go "Look, you must always assume they're out there so as not to let your guard down! That's what happened to us, and look where we are now!"

I'm really starting to see your point of view now. I can get behind no resurrection of the sith.

I could -- provided the resurrection culminated with the Jedi and Sith actually resolving their differences and making peace with one another, maybe even actually merging together into a whole new religious order.

That'll never actually end up happening, though, or if it did, it would be executed horribly.

You just don't get it, do you?

You live by The Lucas, you die by The Lucas. You do not question The Lucas.

Also this:

Blade Runner is pretty much how such releases should be handled. You want your film? Here you go, pick your poison, compare to your heart's content. And here's a truckload of commentaries if that's not enough. And hours of extras. And a bunch of deleted scenes. For a reasonable price. And if you don't want all of that here's a cheap "barebones" version with just The Final Cut and a mere 3,5 hours of extra content included.

Scott doesn't like the narration and the happy ending (I'm not a fan either), but he acknowledges that the theatrical cut is out there and that some people prefer that version. There's five different cuts included in the set, and this is a movie that tanked when in was released.

I want a Star Wars where death can happen to characters.

Those last two were from the prequels, which went way too dark for my taste.

I don't think Luke should die because if he did it would scream going out of their way to parallel ANH and TPM. Also, it's definitely too dark to have such an important character die.

Well Luke dying would not have to be gruesome. It's not like Star Wars is too dark for character deaths SPOILERS the aforementioned Larses, Ben, Tarkin and co., Jabba, Boba, Yoda, Palps, Qui-Gon, Maul, Shmi, Jango, Dooku, Mace and co., and Ric Olie. END SPOLIERS

Boba's death is debateable. I can't recall Ric dying outside of the Frinkverse?

If we're going with all of those, might as well include the biggest single bodycount shot in motion picture history, Alderaan blowing up.

The original showed Owen and Beru's smoldering skeletons. Fighters in the trench run blew into millions of pieces.

Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Anakin all died non-graphically on screen.

Come on.

Does anybody else think it would be too much of a parallel to TPM and ANH?

Seems a bit silly to forbid Jedi Masters from dying to avoid parallels with past films. Especially when parallels can be OK.
