I actually like some of the early efforts from Russ Manning and Archie Goodwin. It was a simpler time. The stories are often a lot of fun, and allow for some creative things modern SW wouldn't allow.

For instance, a frog bounty hunter named Gribbet, a scantilly clad girlfriend for Han named Gamine, and various other things. It was endearing, in a retro kind of way.

The original Marvel comics, much less so. They were just kind of bizarre.

My problem with the Eu (once it became known as that) is just how humorless everything is (much like the prequels) Even in Dark Empire, there's some attempts at humor. But, NOOOO! Like most comics in the last ten years, grim, grim, GRIM, stuff.

Chewie never should have died, and there should never have existed a panel where a woman explodes from a force-bomb.

EDIT: For the record, I don't have anything against character death (Heck, in my EP 7 outline Lando dies in the first 20 minutes), but there's a certain way to do it, and I don't think they did it right.
