DESTROY ALL MONSTERS (1968) - Anamorphic International Version (Released)

I was disappointed with the way the Frontier Enterprises dub of the film was presented on the now OOP Media Blasters DVD. While the clarity was still good, and was in fact sourced from the older ADV/Sci-Fi Channel master, the pitch was lowered by 4% for no given reason.

I do thank Media Blasters for managing to include the international credits and end titles in HD from a new-ish 35mm print however.

I’ve spliced in the English visuals and synched the unaltered audio from the ADV to the MB DVD (Toho’s 2008 1080p telecine), the result being an essentially perfect anamorphic DVD quality international version, which was previously only available as a dated letterboxed broadcast master.

Video and new .mp3 track edited and rendered with Sony Vegas 10.0. Freemake Video Converter used to convert .mkv rip of Blu-Ray credits into editable H.264 .mp4 video.

It will be available on MySpleen as a .mkv in the coming days and possibly Asian DVD Club at a later time.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

Love me some '60s Godzilla... been looking for Destroy All Monsters in a proper presentation for some time now.  Thanks for delivering the goods, Space.  I thought the restoration of King Kong VS. Godzilla also on the spleen was excellent and since I grew up on these classics, it's always great to experience the best versions of them.  I have old VHS recordings from back in the day of basically every film from '54-'75 featuring the big green guy, but one by one I'm trying to get the strongest widescreen transfers of each movie.  This is easily one of the best from the Showa series era... looking forward to it.  Thanks for the great effort to present it at its very best!

As far as audio, is the AIP dub the superior mix?  I've read in the past that the international audio dub was different and possibly not so great.  I really don't have a lot of info on it, but maybe Space can elaborate.  Is the music the same on both?  Thanks in advance.

Whatever your preference is. The Titan Productions dub has those fake-y Japanese-y accents that plague so much of their work, but it holds nostalgia to some and has an arguably better script. The Frontier Enterprises dub is the one that was first aired in the U.S. on Sci-Fi in 1996 and is the one most people of the last generation have heard. The voice acting by Burr Middleton and co. is fairly cartoony, but it fits the tone of the film well and the lines are memorable. It has its naysayers, but I like both equally. A good restoration of AIP's cut from 35mm elements would be desirable as well.

Here is a direct video comparison of the two.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

I'm getting a little lost in all of the acronyms. Is the audio used for this the Frontier or the Titan dub?

For this release, the Frontier dub through and through.

Now that King Kong vs. Godzilla, it has only Japanese audio or am I wrong?

I am having to re-download it as it appears it got lost in my HD crash a few weeks back.

Dr. Gori/Allen Perkins' Kong restoration has only stereo Japanese audio with subs because the international version (not John Beck/Universal's cut) has never surfaced and even then we don't know if it was fully dubbed or not.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

I can PM you a muxable .mp3 of the Titan dub from the MB DVD if it pains you that much.

Space, can you send me a PM with that Titan dub as well please... I grew up with that one too.  Thanks in advance and thank you for making this classic available to the fans.  It's one of the best Godzilla films in the history of the franchise!

If you still have this would you be willing to send it to me.  I'd love to add it in and have 2 choices instead of one.

Thanks Space Hunter M

Just bought a copy of the recalled Bluray.  A little pricey but since it rarely shows up I figured I'd bite.

Whoohoo.

Nice work Jetrell Fo! I thought I read somewhere that it will be re-released with some of the extras removed that so offended Toho. Anyways, the version you clued me in on from TPB is outstanding and is my go-to version.

I'm glad to hear it Lee.  It is great find considering and it at least has the commentary so that's a start.
