OK, thanks for the tips guys, but nothing helped. Not even the UDF/ISO DVD-ROM mode that Sifo-Dyas suggested.

Still, I figured out what was wrong. The ESB and RotJ just do not play straight away when inserted. You have to press the "next chapter" button on the remote for the movie to start playing. With ANH, this is not necessary. I first burned ANH and tested and it worked and played fine (without pressing the next chapter button) - then I was confused when ESB and RotJ didn't seem to work likewise. Mind you I'm only talking about the Farsight set here.

Thanks for bearing with my newbieness

Oh, did I mention that it would be silly to master a work of art into single-layer format since dual-layer is just around the corner?

Kirby,
I too noticed something different about the authoring of Farsight's ESB & ROTJ, compared to Farsight's ANH.
ESB & ROTJ will not AutoPlay when inserted into my standalone player. Instead my screen turns all white.
However, if I press the Menu button ( Farsight set don't have menus, as Rik mentioned above)
but if I press the Menu button my white screen goes away and DVD player logo returns.
Now I can press Play button and the movies will start. (ANH will AutoPlay upon insertion, just like normal.)

Try all the buttons ! Maybe your player can be coaxed into playing them, as mine was.

Farsight and DrGonzo are two different sets (as others have already noted)

------Edit
oops, I should have refreshed my screen to see you've already got the answer !

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Yes Mallwalker I managed to figure it out, thanks anyway
I'm happy I wasn't the only one with the different mastering/play start thingy with ANH versus ESB/RotJ. I thought I was going crazy or something... I'm happy it's all sorted now.

Yep, so the DrGonzo set is *still* another version of the trilogy ... oh well, I have the TR47 and Farsight sets now, I do not think the DrGonzo set is much different or better ?

Looking at the screenshots of MeBeJedi's and zion's versions I really think I should wait for those to become available, although I'll hopefully have to buy a dual-layer burner to burn them onto DVD

Well, I fully intend to release a DL version in the future, but I want to be sure I can test it first. I'd like to make sure my version is free of mastering problems like the one you just encountered.

There are a few cosmetic changes, but for the most part, they are the same.

Well, for those of you who like updates (I still don't think my version requires its own thread. )

I just realized I wasted an entire weekend compiling ANH incorrectly (as 29.97 fps, vs. 23.976 with 3-2 pulldown). That being said, it should compile much quicker now, since it doesn't have to change the frame-rate of the footage. I kept wondering why my computer was running dog-ass slow, and now I know.

is it NTSC? Is it worth picking up for 20 bucks do you think?

Japanese television is indeed NTSC.

It may have some collectible value, but I hope you're not getting it for the transfer. I remember seeing this particular laserdisc being played on one of my friend's laserdisc players. He's been collecting for a LONG time. The picture wasn't that great, though.

nah Ive got a few lds and some vhs sitting in my parents collection at their home that I will collect at thanksgiving. I just watch them on my cheap laserdisc player when I want...i did transfer ANH from a '92 LD today. It looks ok, but I'm going to use Definitive LDs anyway.

Zion, how on earth did you create the ESB menu? It's extraordinary!

You and me both! My set will definitely be DL.

You are making DL? What sources are you using?
Author

Zion is using the "Faces" LDs as I believe MeBeJedi is as well.

The "Faces" set is the same as the Definitive but cleaned up a little more (especially ANH).

I believe MeBeJedi has been playing around with both.

Believe me, I would love to make a set of each, but my Def.Col. set is defective.

As to a DL DVD, all I need is a DL burner. I just don't have the funds for one right now.

Regarding dual layered,

PLEASE make it larger than a standard DVD. Even if you do not have a dual layered burner, you can always burn the movie over 2 DVDs.

This way, you can still use your normal burner until you can buy a dual layered. Why sacrifice quality?

Dual-layered burners are around $100 and the media is $10-$12 per DVD. It will all come down in time.

I would hate for you to put it in all the work and then realize the quality could have been much better.

Just put it on 2 DVDs for now.
